Scamp is using fiamma awnings now, they are the cats meow from my perspective. Fiamma makes attachments for them to convert into fully enclosed tents or screen porches.

Pretty dang nice. When we were there a couple of weeks ago, kent said the only issue with the fiamma is that they cost home more than he used to charge for the dometic we have on ours.

My awning is Carefree as Jim's, but on a 17'
I have a screen room for it that attaches to the awning and fully encloses it. I've never had call to set it up though. Not enough black flies and mosquitoes to bother.

Paul, those do look interesting. Maybe not as tough, but a more compact unit.

just ramblin' and reflecting...
we have the carefree style set up on our 38' Mobile Suite (14' awning) and i would never leave it up in a wind...I watched one rip a sidewall off a trailer in a windstorm once here on the oregon coast at agate beach state park. . . it was actually quite a sad sight to behold.

Our fiama f45...same thing as i noted. Yes they are amazing awnings, and the legs can attach to the side of the rv or staked into ground...but then we are used to daily afternoon winds of ~25 to 35 so our awnings are only up near brunch or late dinner.

Glennco, I checked out the Fiamma website and didn't see a 10' awning listed, o I missed it if it was. They also show several types with a wide range in price. Do you happen to know which one Scamp is using? I am wondering if it's something I can purchase and install myself and save a few $$.

the small f45 fiama on our van was nearly $700...it's a high priced item for sure.

Sorry, I didn't ask what model he was using.

If a 2.5 meter awning is enough for you, this is an interesting option

All else being said though, I wouldn't go without an awning personally, they're just too handy. Even in my years of backcountry tent camping, we'd string a tarp for protection from rain, wind, and sun

In watching the Scamp youtube video, the awning looks kind of flimsy to me. I like the Carefree design that incorporates side struts down to the trailer. They have a dizzying choice of styles and fabrics though that I am trying to sort through. Also trying to find out if it's an addon I can do myself.

The awning referenced on their website is the older dometic awning.

Awning,yes for sure!

I have stood and watched the awning get torn from the trailer in strange winds a few times and I have both done bad things to mine and watched others break theirs and I would still say Yes.

I love my Awning and as long as I am careful I think it is my favorite thing on the trailer maybe.

I sit under mine in rain all the time, what do you think it is for?
It is also great for keeping the sun at bay and sort of adds to the floor space of the trailer even though it is outside.

I used a Easy-Up with my Scamp that had no awning but don't think I would go there again.

We are from the Phoenix Arizona area, and camp in the windy southwest (Az,Ut,Co), and have a Dometic awning on our 13' Scamp, and rarely use it. When we do use it we have to take it down by night fall, as even light breezes cause small shaking and noises that keep waking me up.
PS What is rain?

And something we got here in town last night for the first time this year. All other precipitation has been snow or sleet this year. Could it be that spring really is here?

On the Scamp site video of the awning in the video is indeed the old Dometic they use to sell - a pretty common awning found on many brands of trailers. Its not really flimsy (one on mine has been well used for 21 years) but they are a real pain to put up and especially to put away on your own.

Someone at the NOG rally last week had the new type Fiamma, (may have been Donna D.?) and it looked to be a much simpler and easier system to put up and put away.

Yes, get the awning. The Fiamma and Carefree box awning are virtually the same awning. It's called a box awning because everything goes up into the box, that's why you don't see any legs. The awning cranks in and out in a moment. The legs can be either attached to the side of the trailer or down to the ground.

It's rare that I don't have my awning deployed. Because it's so easy to deploy and retract I simply retract it if I'm going to be away from the campsite and think there is a possibly of the wind kicking up.

I would never have a camper without an awning. You got it if you need it. It's attached to the camper not another item to carry in your tug or hassle with.

F45S 300 308cm 292cm 250cm 23kg

i am not positive but i think this is the one that is spec'd on the 16' Scamp.

so, 23 kg, about 50 pounds.

as the weight is carried across the length of the trailer you will not notice any difference in your towing.

I'm putting one on my 13 foot Scamp. I'm going to first make a cheap one, link below.

When I decide that I love it or realize features I would prefer, I'll have nice one made by Marti

Hope this helps
