That is horrible news.

I have fond memories of hiking up the draw at Lost Dutchman with my father, back in the '80s before he passed away from cancer. I repeated the hike about 4 years ago and it brought back a lot of emotions. If they close the park, does that mean people won't be able to hike there at all any more? What a shame; it's beautiful there. And I'm sure many of the other AZ parks are great, too.

I wonder how large a cut would be needed before any of the top bureaucrats would be laid off?

I was in Yuma last week when they announced due to lack of funds they are closing the Territorial state prison tourist attraction, its really a great place with lots of history I always make a point of going to see it and it will be a sad day when if it does close. The problem in Arizona is the cost of the Border protection service, they are everywhere! While driving from Las Vegas to Yuma I was stopped three times at check stops, at one of them there was a huge military looking truck with a machine gun mounted on top, at the Mexican border there was about 6 cars and 20 or so officers watching the river, this is costing the state millions of dollars and something has to give.

The United States Border Patrol is a federal agency and is not funded by the state of Arizona.

I really hate to see any of the parks closing. I lived in Arizona for many years and have been to most of these places. I used to love climbing to the top of Picacho Peak.

This was a hot topic in Southern AZ

Has anyone heard of any New Mexico state parks closing? Someone recently mentioned one closing of a park I wasn't familiar with. The ones away from the interstates that I stay at in the winters sure don't get all that much business.
