Came across this link on RV.Net about a very determined bear trying to get into a trailer. Like the mosquito repellent mentioned earlier it's apparent that we're unprepared for yet another potential nuisance or worse. So, what should we have in the trailer to face this problem?

I have found that a large caliber hand gun works well in many circumstances.

Hi:Steve Dunkle... Hitting the bear on the snout with a clock only proved that "Time wounds all heels". Maybe giving him a dose of Franks Hot Sauce would have done IT!!!

A few jacketed slugs to the face from my .45 at point blank range would probably change his mind. Failing that, we'll try the AK-47. If that fails, we'll declare the bear the winner.

As they say, sometimes you get the Bear....sometimes the Bear gets you.

I like the REALLY BIG GUN idea, myself, but keep it close so the Bear is not between you and the Gun.

Steve, we used UDAP bear deterrent pepper spray when fishing and portaging from lake to lake in Ontario. Never had to use it. 1-800-232-7941 in Bozeman, Montana. (would probably work on an intruder bearing a large handgun as well). We have black bears visiting us weekly here on our farm in West Virginia. They pass through the yard by the house on the way to and from wherever bears go. Last spring, we had two cubs on our deck with momma in the yard. Never agressive and threatening...just bears being bears after our bird feeders. If you venture into bear terrain, you enter their domain and should use common sense and good judgment and remember to be a good guest. A large handgun as some suggest offers more problems than solutions in my opinion...especially when carried from state to state or around other campers/children. A black bear is the very least of your worries.
