The snow finally melted and allowed me to get in to Browns Meadow, my favorite camping place in the Sequoia National Forest.
The meadow usually has deer feeding at dusk, but none that night.
The largest brown colored Black Bear I have ever seen was in the Meadow. I've seen quit a few bears in my travels around here. The average bear around here weighs about 200 to 225 lbs.
This one had to be at least 300 lbs.
This one had to be half again as large as any I've seen before. The next night I saw two average size Black bears crossing the Meadow. I recorded them on my new
video Camera and haven't figured out how to capture individual pics yet.
This was the first chance I've had to try the 50W solar panel I installed on the roof of my Scamp.
I was camped at the east end of the Meadow so I only had filtered sun until about 10 AM.
I watched Avatar, long movie, and did not turn the lights out until about 12 PM. The furnace was set on 60 degrees as the temp was getting down into the low 30s.
By 4:30 PM that same day my battery was back up to 13.47 volts.
I guess you could say I'm happy camper.
John

hi john---glad that that bear didn't cause you any troubles!

and your success with the solar panel is a great incentive for all of us without solar to strongly consider it.

Beautiful wildlife!, I have a 50 watt panel also and like you can watch movies, kick the furnace on after a shower in the morning and be fully charged later in the day, Camp life is great! That Bear is a big fellow!
