BIG German Teardrop

I saw four of these on a truck going west on 94 in Indiana Sunday afternoon.

Wata cute lil' rig!!! I wish they had more on the construction... Looks like they could be FG... Pull handles on the front of the rig are a handy feature!

It looked to be aluminum sided. And the frame was aircraft aluminum with holes in it! Sort of "A" shaped from rear to front.
It looked like leaf springs , but I can't be sure.
Looks very light. Had heater a vent in front and a 3 inch by 12 inch vent by right front side ?? Refer? fresh air for heater??
It did look very cool tho I must say.

The driver was looking at my Burro and I was looking at his load.

Classic Caravans in California used to import these for about $12,000 or more depending on options from Germany. Now Dutchmen, part of Thor Industries in Elkhart, IN is making them for the US market. The sale price and floorplan remain the same.

There were pictures of one of these trailers, Euro version, in a very old thread that disappeared. The Euro styling and light weight is nice. These come in at about 1,100 pounds and are designed to be pulled by 4 cylinder vehicles like the VW bug and the Mini. They customize the trim to match your vehicle.

These are new for the 2004 market. Most dealers don't have their shipment or brochures yet.

According to Trailer Life mag, the correct name of the rig is "T@B" (yes with @ instead of an a) .... which stands for "Taking America Back."

Dutchmen Manufacturing is making a modified version of the German Tabbert Caravan ... for the American market, with modified lp and electrical systems.

MSRP starts at US$12,000.

Saw one today

I saw one of these on display today at General RV. Very well laid out; Kitchen and closet across the front. Almost enough headroom for me at 5'11" to stand up in the front only. The rest of the trailer is bed / dinette. Looks like you could leave a twin bed set up across the back, or drop the table to make a queen size. There are a couple of small overhead cupboards across the back. The exterior is aluminum with molded plastic trim.
$14,268.00 US.
Dale

The T@b is not a big success in Europe. It is not so practical.
Btw it is stick build, so leave it ;) ;) ;)

In fact it is a modern 'Dübener Egg', made during 1939 - 1990.

Dutchmen should make better a modified version of the Dutch BIOD Caravan ... for the American market, etc.
:) :) :)

If they did that they would be competing with their existing product lines. They have so much invested in their other current brands, I don't imagine they will cross over to fiberglass anytime soon. The T@B lets them try something different without undercutting what they already have going.

It is cute - but a tad overpriced. For the same money you could get an Escape with shower/toilet and AC. If the pricing were more reasonable, I'd definitely be interested. If you can order one from Germany and ship it here for less money than acquiring locally, Dutchmen's markup is too high.

Besides being cute, garageablity and small tow vehicle compatibility are its biggest selling points with me.

Maybe someone will take the notion to do this in fiberglass?
