Cam, I just looked at Bigfoot's web page and I don't see the 1500 listed anymore and I wonder if they haven't now lumped them in with the 2500 series. They now have TT's with slide-outs and that is a new group.

Keith, the 1500 series trailers are discontinued; the 25B175 series at 17.5 ' long and 8'4" wide replaced the 15B17CB/G in the 17' at 8' wide variety. They still produce pickup campers in the 1500 series though; primarily I suppose because of the weight difference between the 1500 series and 2500 series per square foot of surface area. The 2500 series trailers have 1/2 in thicker walls and so the shells weigh more.

Thanks for the update, Roger. Things always change, don't they. I still don't understand why BF or SOMEONE doesn't make a quality fiberglass decent sized 5 th wheel. There has to be a market for them. We would probably make the change but the only one is the Scamp and my wife, sorry Scampers, thinks they're too ugly.

That's alright Keith, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I believe in Loving The One Your With. Now the Escape 5th wheel...can't wait to see that in person

I know you're really talking about someone building a LARGER molded fiberglass 5th wheel, since you've got a larger BigFoot.

The more I see of the Bigfoot trailer, the more I like it. My wife and I think we may upgrade to a Bigfoot in about five or six years.

Bob... you're absolutely right... the 175's are only 8' wide, not 8'4" as I wrote. Our newer 25B25RQ is the wider one... <sigh>.

Used '05 little ones go for $23k. New '07s will set you back about $31k and change! Fortunately, we paid less than half that for our '04 17', and we got a super year-end closeout deal on our '06 that was about the price of the '07 175.

Bigfoot is pricey, but there's nothing else on the market that comes close to them in terms of build quality and features, especially if you do any cold-weather camping at all. That's where they really shine. Their only drawback is that they're relatively heavy compared to the other FGRVs, but it's because of the weight of the insulation, strong heavy duty frame, thickness of the fiberglass layup, and dual thermopane windows.

We recently upgraded from a 17' Casita SD to a 17.5' Bigfoot. The reasons:

1. we are very social and tend to entertain nightly. We often have 6-8 people for lunch and dinner. If the weather isn't warm, we're inside -- yes all inside the Casita. Cozy, and fun. The problem is that you have to make up the rear dinette into the bed every night.

2. After a day hiking or just being lazy, I want a place to lie down. There's no place to lie down unless you make up one of the beds. It's a small pain.

3. I slept on the converted 2-person dinette. It's really small and rather uncomfortable.

With the 17' Bigfoot there's always a place to lie down and both beds are roomy.

Unfortunately, the weather in Oregon has been horrible for the past 8 weeks and we haven't been able to take the BF out yet. It about killed me to winterize (hated to limit my options), but we did.

I'm waiting for spring!!!

I'm waiting until after Christmas. The first year of the Mountain Egg we were out New Years Eve, and once or twice a month after that. November was a very wet month, no camping then.

Winterizing consists of making sure there's lots of water in the fresh water tank, a heater set to keep the trailer between 45° and 50°, open cabinets where there's water lines, and setting a container of Dri-Z-Air in the sink.

If we get a few days where the temps stay below freezing I'll kick the heat up a bit.

We're thinking about Bar View Camp Ground for the Dec 29 - Jan 1.
