Someone up north sent me this:

THESE PICTURES WERE TAKEN NEAR GORDON, WI

Not just any mother bear and her cub, but a black bear with a white cub.
don't know how rare it is for a black bear to have a white cub but at least
we can say we've seen it no matter how rare it is!

I'm pretty sure the Indian community would go nuts over this. Kind of like
a white buffalo. Since there seems to be no sign of a pink nose or eyes,
I would say that it is not an albino.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos!

That cub is adorable. Makes one want to pick it up and hug it. Do you think Mama would mind.

Yes, he certainly is a handsome little dude, and he has relatives out in our part of the world. In fact, one in ten of the black bears on this island are born white. And they are NOT albino either.

I've been a fan of bears since I was a kid. I knew about the white color phase in Canada. However, I've never heard of one outside of that area. To have a white bear in Wisconsin is pretty amazing!

I hope he made it to adulthood. A lot of hunters would be out gunning for him if they suspected they could kill him. (Or her.)

Great photos! Never knew about white black bears.
Did have a white crow (not albino) living near our home for a couple of years though...

Oh my gosh! that is amazing! I've never seen this before. We had a white deer (I assume albino) That lived on our property for one season but we never saw it again. It is true hunters like them. We saw three black bears cross the road a few months ago, but I have never heard of a white black bear. Thanks for posting.
