Black Rock Mountain SP

Just made Ressies for Black Rock Mountain SP in Northern GA for next week. This will be our first trip to the region during summer. We have visited 2 other GA Mountain SPs (Unicoi and Vogel) over Spring Break the past 2 yrs. Hope to do some river tubing during the day along with visiting Tallulah Gorge and play in the Falls then be able to enjoy fires in the cooler evenings. This is the highest SP in all GA with morning summer temps sometimes in the 50's. Looking forward to the break from Florida's heat and humidity as always. Any other don't miss Attractions/sites we need to take in while in the area? We always hit as many falls as possible. We did the town of Helen back in Mar and it was fantastic!

We have reservations there along with other Oliver Owners in the Fall. Don't miss visiting Clayton, GA and Highlands, NC. Both are close by. If you are coming up thru Atlanta, a stop in Dahlonega, GA is worth your time. At one time, there was a US Mint there. Coins produced at the Dahlonega Mint bear the "D" mint mark. That mint mark is used today by the Denver Mint, which opened many years after the Dahlonega Mint closed. All coins from the Dahlonega Mint are gold and bear dates in the range 1838–1861.

We are the other Olivers Steve mentioned. Blackrock is our go to happy place. Always cool. We go there to escape Florida heat also. The CG is small. I prefer the back loop because it is secluded, and seems to be cooler. 45,46,47 are excellent sites.

The Foxfire village settlement and museum is very interesting. Right there at Blackrock and depicts early Appalachian life.

Spend time in Clayton but forget Franklin NC. Not much there.

You will love it. Just be sure you have a tug that can handle the steep grade.

Excellent info thanks! How far to a grocery store? I tow with a V6 Rav4 and my Scamp 13 barely weighs 1500 lbs so hopefully were good. Vogel SP had a steep grade with switchbacks and I had no issues. Took it slow and steady especially with 3 teens who got motion sickness until they chewed their ginger gum lol.

Clayton is only a couple miles. There is a Walmart, and Ingalls grocery store. Ingalls is terrific. Huge store with great selections.

Yes, it's a very nice campground. The last few miles up the mountain are a bit daunting but it keeps the big rigs out. The temperature was about 20 degrees cooler than down in the flatlands. Georgia does a nice job with their state parks. You can read about my time there at "as the gnome roams" (Google will take you there). For me it's a great quick retreat (150 miles or so from home) and I'm sure I'll return. If you decide to visit note that while it's not apparent on the registration page, they do give out of staters a geezer discount but it's given as a credit on your card when you check in.
