Bok Tower
Today we visited the Bok Tower in Lake Wales, FL. Bok Tower is well worth the visit. It is an absolutely beautiful carillon. To properly visit the place requires a day's visit, make sure to also visit the adjoining Pinewood Estate, part of the cost of admission.

We go to Florida about every year but we have not visited the tower.
Many decades ago, when I was a kid in 2nd or third grade, I received an award for "one hundred perfect spelling lessons". The certificate, probably hand made by the teacher, had a picture of "Bok Singing Tower". I was fascinated by the picture and thought I would like to see it some day.
Thank you for your post which has reminded me of that long forgotten day.
It is only about 35 miles from the Sebring ScampCamp.
Who knows? We may yet make a point to visit the place!

When I saw the subject line, I thought maybe Norm was coming to Oklahoma! We have a BOK Tower in Tulsa...

Floyd,
Interesting picture. In reality the tower is not pink. The center portion of each face is white and pink Georgia marble, the facing of the outside portion on each side of the marble is FL Limestone. All manner of FL animals are cut into friezes on the portions of the marble. The 60 tons of bells are in the upper section behind the intricately tiled upper sections. It is truly a works of art.
After each of the two daily concerts the carollioner answers questions about the playing of the bells.
One of the most interesting aspects is that the tower is built on a hill, rather high for FL. The spine of the hill which runs for some distance is a rather hard iron ore. I never would have guessed there was iron ore in FL.
Discount coupons are often available for tours on various sites.

We were there several years ago. It's a "great stop". We also liked the Florida's Natural Grove Store down the road. It's across the highway from the giant juice plant.

Back about 1979 we toured Florida and the Carilinas. Of course we took the kids to Disney World, Busch Gardens, Sealand and other usual touristy places. Bol tower was also on the list. Thanks for pushing the memory button.

For whom did the bells toll? Did they toll for thee?

As to tolling bells, the Carillon performer said that many performers become deaf in earlier times from the ringing of the bells, particularly in early times. The performance area is located right below the bell chamber. The bells tolled for the ringer....
At Bok the performer is in a sound proof room.
