bringing our Escape home - an adventure.

We drove up to 'look' and came home with a 05 17' Escape, for sale by owner but parked in Escape lot.
Wow! What a surprise! But making that decision on Friday the 13th came with a curse, we spent two days trying to get it home, lots of hassles with border crossings (we crossed 6 times, 4 in one day) , getting the funds, paper work, etc. We were so fortunate to get what I call the Reace and Tammy 'care package' of support, information and education, even though this was an owner sale. Their help made all the other hassle's bearable. Advice to others - do not go to Canada to 'look' at a trailer, go prepared to buy, unless you have lots of time and patience. We had the time, but I, not feeling well, did not have patience , but rather determination to bring home the trailer that said to me - "I'm the one!".

Got it home midnight Saturday - this morning a spring snow welcomed it to Washington!

We also learned from Reace this morning that the front window leak we had on way home in the rain is caused by turbulence created by our car. A rare phenomena that has only happened with one other car. Who would have known? There is no evidence that the window leaked before. So we will have to come up with a creative solution, maybe replace the opening window with a non-opener, a last resort as we'd like the ventilation. We like our 'ole Previa and have no intention or funds for a new TV. Our Burro has an opener on the front and does not leak but the angle and window cover are different.

Other than that it is wonderful! Seems like a lot of trailer compared to our baby Burro (which we will be selling). I fell in love with the 13' Escape trailers ready for their unveiling this week. They won my heart, but the body needs the 17'.

As soon as we recover from the 'ordeal' we will get REALLY excited!

P.S. There is a 06 Escape for sale by owner also in the lot - in excellent condition. We made offer on both, ended up with the 05.

Does your Previa have a scoop on the back for downdraft? I know the third generation Previa's have this 3rd Generation Previa. Maybe that would help with the vehicle eddy occuring at the back and keep the leak at bay?

Interesting thought - no we have the original Previa, that picture is the Estima, not sold in USA as far as I know. Not sure where the turbulence problem comes from, we will start with mud flaps, then look into whether something for the downdraft could be added. thanks for the idea.

Mike is wondering if when we get the equalizer hitch on (it didn't fit) the angles might be different and that could help, wrote Reace asking this. It would be a subtle difference though so not sure it will help.

We were there when you were making phone calls and that and heard about your issues at the border.. (darn spring break eh??)

WTG with picking it up and I am sure you will enjoy it. Stupid snow eh?? It's too cold to even load it up right now!

We too had a small amount of water on our table when we got home last night--just a little bit, but presumed it was just from the ride home and the pouring rain and maybe it was just accumulated condensation that had gathered in the track. Will monitor it--but no wet this morning after the rain last night and snow today---so just something with driving...

Sounds like lots of folks at Escape on Saturday. We were there Friday for a while, and again yesterday for one last check before we flew back to Calgary. Busy place right now, that Escape shop is.

Thanks for the idea and info, we have been thinking of air flow diversions, this is worth looking into.

And thanks to all who have wished us well and congratulated us on our new little home one wheels, we're thinking it will be named "Turtle" ~ a nice little hard shell to crawl into, feel cozy & and at home in while camping, and place to 'escape' to for a slower pace! Maybe not original, but works for us! Oh, did I mention turtle's come from eggs?!
