Flat zero degrees here (Springfield area) at 9:30 am (Jan. 16th). Looks like it is 50 at Q. I have become somewhat addicted to the Intellicast weather maps. Today I spend packing and getting ready to go in the morning. The truck is gassed up and the groceries are loaded. My trailer is pretty much ready except the air pressure in the tires hasn't been checked since deer season. That will be a pain in this weather. Then I need to get my ATV loaded. That will be a pain too. Trying to decide whether to put some water in the tank or run dry until I get to warmer weather.

My route to the Quartzsite is I-44 to Oklahoma City then I-40 west. If there is bad winter weather in Northern New Mexico and Arizona I turn southwest at Amarillo, go to Clovis, Roswell, Ruidoso, and get on I-10 at Las Cruces. Southern or northern route is the same distance from here. The only thing is I plan to go to Las Vegas first and be there by Monday night. On the way I want to stay at that new Twin Arrows casino 20 miles east of Flagstaff Thursday night. They are predicting snow at Flagstaff Saturday. I will be in Las Vegas at least three days then start migrating down the valley toward Q.

I will be gone four to six weeks and will boondock at BLM land, truck stops, casinos and camp at Elks Lodge camp grounds.

I'm here at the Q, and it was 70°F yesterday. A little cooler this morning - 58°F right now (11:00AM), and 48°F last night.

Bob , I know it is hard to believe but have faith , you will survive and be all the better for the experience.
We had the same feeling of despair & desperation one year when we were in Texas . It was so hot I prayed to the Lord to spare me.
Luckily we were able to escape to Arkansas .
Now , it is nothing more than an unpleasant memory.

Good Luck !!

LaPosa West, about 1000' from the "Big Tent" ( a tent the size of a football field), which opens with lots of RV stuff for sale on the 20th. I'll stay here through the show, then head to Dome Rock, possibly with a stop somewhere in between.

72° F just north of Tampa today. Tomorrow and Thursday night lows around freezing forecast, with a high of only 54° on Thursday, but then the forecast is for mid 70s for at least a week with nightime lows in the 50s.

Hope the citrus is ok. I'm waiting on the Honey Bells to arrive.

Many of Florida’s citrus trees are being wiped out by citrus greening, a bacterial disease with no treatment/cure. The bacteria are carried by a small insect vector. Whole groves are dying. Unless a cure or treatment is found, the entire Florida citrus industry may soon only be a memory.

Friends are in northern FL and is an avid container gardener. Said his back is about broken from moving pails in and out of garage due to freeze warnings... Here in Western MT of Maine we are hovering in the teens and I am keeping warm by splitting next years fire wood with a 9lb maul... weather is better then a few weeks ago where we had 6 nights with temps down around minus 29 and one morning I had negative 33 F. Stayed in those days.

Finding a cure for the disease attacking Florida's citrus crops is actually something of real importance or maybe my priorities are misplaced ?

Of course I was referring to frost but I heard a report about citrus greening on NPR last fall. It didn't sound hopefully. I track winter by the arrival of the different varieties. No citrus would be a real loss.

Tom, 9° here in Danville, KY this morning too. This stopped being fun yesterday after I shoveled the same sidewalk for the third time. We've had over six inches of snow in the last 24 hours. This is why I left Minnesota!
