Hi Adrian,

One of the fires was close to where I work, but we were in no danger.

The others are quite aways away.. I guess we on the mountain get a year off this year.

Smokey everywhere, but doable.

Thanks for asking!

I think Carol and Jim may have had more issues, the Sylmar one is up in thier neck of the woods and snarled all the major freeways into LA>

Hi All

We are in Canyon Country which is in the city of Santa Clarita. Sylmar (near San Fernando) is just over the hill from us. As you know, 500 + mobile homes were lost in Sylmar, along with everything those folks owned. Our daughter's friend, Julie, had a mobile home there and she now has nothing and she even lost her two precious cats in the fire. Julie is having a hard time right now.

The fire from Sylmar came over the hill to Placerita Canyon Rd. That's approx 2 miles from our home. Because of the fire situation in Newhall Pass and Placerita Canyon, all our exits going south, out of our city, were closed. That's Freeways 5, 14, 210, and 126 too. The only way out of our city would have been to go north towards the Palmdale/Lancaster area.

Our daughter's cruise ship docked Saturday morning and she couldn't get home. We couldn't get out to get her and she finally found someone to get her to the San Fernando Valley and she stayed overnight with a friend, who even drove her home on Sunday.

Our situation is better now.. there are still helicopters (4 different ones) flying over our home about every 10 minutes or so. They go to our nearby golf course, fill from the ponds, and drop over the fires. This has been going on since Friday.

We've been very fortunate here in our canyon... We feel so bad for everyone who has had to evacuate and who have lost homes in these terrible California fires ... and we owe tons to our firefighters for everything they do.

Carol and Jim

Gina & Carol - thanx for letting us all know your areas are OK. However, 2 miles would be MUCH too close for comfort for me! Our prayers also go out to everyone who has been touched by the fury of these fires & winds. L 'n D
