Camp Driveway!

We are planning to spend our first night in the Scamp (it's in the driveway due to no plates yet)....It is going to get down to 32 tonight, hopefully it is warm enough. We don't have an LP or a CO detector yet, so I don't plan to run any appliances. If we get cold we can always come in the house I guess. Built a PVC bedrail for the top bunk today that we are hoping keeps the kid in place! It is supposed to rain all night, so do I leave something open for a vent to prevent condensation or not worry about it? I think I would prefer to wait until it's warmer and we can have a fire and stuff, but the kiddos are excited, so camp away!

That's great Cricket. Maybe hot water bottles if it gets too cold, or an electric blanket.

Leave the top vent open a tad. If it's warmer inside the trailer than out, you'll have condensation on the windows. Leaving the top vent open will help a bit to midigate some of it.

Or an electric heater? I'd crack a window or all of your breathing will cause a lot of condensation. Electric blankets or warm sleeping bags are a good idea but if you can heat the trailer up with a small space heater you'll probably be more comfy.

I can not find our electric heater to save my life right now! I have been looking for it for three days! I think I will crack a vent and pray for no rain.

That is the reason why I have 2 or 3 of the same tool, I can't find something, purchase another and eventually the original shows up. Interesting, it is always in the last place you look. My point is, maybe it is time to replace your hard to find heater with a new one that could be an improvement over the old one!

Good time to buy cheap space heaters- they are clearanced at this time of year in a lot of stores.

When we bought our Scamp in early Nov. 2012, our first purchase was at Wal Mart and it was a little cube heater. Our first night of camping was a couple of days later on Northern Idaho, plugged in at 29F, and we were warm and comfortable. With a window cracked at one end of the trailer, and a hatch cracked at the other we had very little moisture in the morning. Our little cube heater has always lived in the trailer.

We have tried to camp at least one week a month since we purchased the trailer. Since we are above 5,500ft of elevation it still gets cold here, even now, in AZ. ENJOY

Apologies for continuing off topic, but to add to the electric heater discussion; we have 4 different electric heaters, the most recent cube heater from Walmart heats the camper good but the temperature differential between when it's thermostat shuts it off and when it comes back on is too great a variance. That one ended up in the screen room set to be on constantly, and a used heater I found is in the camper as it works much better at maintaining an even temperature. We leave a window partially open to help avoid condensation. Hope the driveway camping went good, enjoy your camper now that the stress of finding one is over.

Things lost are always found (if found) in the last place you look even if it's found in the first place you look. Why continue looking for it after you've found it? Anyway, those are my words of wisdom for today.

Target was closing out their heaters last week at 75% off. I snagged one with a thermostat.

Kids decided they were cold and we abandoned camp driveway (luckily we were close to home)....anyway....hubby found a clearanced heater yesterday at walmart, but several of the reviews mentioned it started smoking....so i had him not get it....we are on the search for a small cube heater though...target, here we come!

The good news is, we know everyone fits in their assigned places although all four of us in the middle trying to get to where we needed to be was fairly comical to be sure....there was way more room in there when it was just me getting it ready!

If you find your cube heater, take it home and try it out right away. That way you can take it back and get another brand. First one I tried sounded like a jet taking off. Cheap is not a "good deal". I ended up with a Honeywell that I am happy with. Has a thermostat, adjustable fan, is compact, safe and quiet ( relatively speaking ).

Electric blankets or electric sleeping pads, either 12 volt or 120 VAC are great devices, they put the heat where you need it.

Generally we do not run the electric heaters at night thought we might turn our heater on around 5AM to take the room chill off.

We camped in our yards for a couple of months, practicing for the road. The price is right and the house is near for what you forgot or need.

While I like the even heat from oil filled electric heaters, they all are just too big for my trailer. My favorite heater is a Pelonis Ceramic Disk "Cube".

I have a 1500W-II. Like other heaters it has a thermostat, but the advantage is that it has both an automatic & manual mode. When set to manual the wattage can be varied from as low as 350W to as high as 1500W with the same dial that sets the temperature when on automatic. The fan speed varies with the wattage so if set low, it is very quiet.

When set on automatic, as the thermostat reaches its setting both the wattage & fan speed drops, so it gets very quiet, and only speeds up again if the outside temperature drops a great deal. Even at full power it is much quieter than the furnace. It also has a setting for fan only.

I don't know if they still make this model or anything similar to it - mine is dated 10/89...

I have 2 small oil filled heaters, 400 and 700 watt respectively. I do not like the 1500 watt heaters, way too much electric use for a small trailer. These two came from NewAir AH-410 700 Watt Electric Oil Filled Radiator Space Heater
