I would like to know about favorite campground guidebooks. Frommer's has been recommended. Any better ones? Thanks

I recently purchased "Guide to Free Campgrounds, Western States" version. If you're into low price and no hookups this seems to be pretty good, at least for my area. I checked what they had to say about a few of the places I've been too, and I didn't find any problems. FYI, Free is $12 or less.

I love the Foghorn Outdoors "Camping Books". They are simply campground books for the various states. There is not one for every state. Go on Amazon and query Foghorn Outdoors Camping, Barnes & Noble etc do carry them.

I have all the books except Arizona/New Mexico Camping and Baja Camping, here's the list:

California Camping
Colorado Camping
Florida Camping
Great Lakes Camping
Montana, Wyoming & Idaho Camping
New England Camping
Pacific Northwest Camping
Utah Camping

Moon Handbooks are nice. They give you information about a State which is nice but you have to sift though them for the campgrounds and the campground listings are not a comprehensive as the Foghorn books.

FYI
The Foghorn books appear to be out of print. Last published in 2002, 2003. Moon book, by the same author published 2006, 2007.

There are used available at through Amazon.com of the Foghorn book.

I've been using Don Wright's book, like Bryon, for quite a while and if you are into campgrounds rather than RV parks, it's a great reference source. The prices can be off even with the newest edition, however. Some of the disperse camping suggestions I've checked out were absolutely stellar. Felt like finding everyone's copy of the book and ripping the page out.

My road-tools library has both the Wright books, Camping with the Corps and a book listing campgrounds inside the National Parks, plus a Texas DOT book that listed all the federal, state, county and city CGs in TX (seems to be out of print).
