You're Right it's awful!
Prices here are terrible. I like Swisher Sweets little cigars. A pack of twenty in Washington cost me $1.99 last week near Kalaloch Campground in Olympic National Park. Here in Vancouver the same pack is $13.50 cdn

No wonder the Canadian custom guys opened all our water bottles and made me pour a little water out of our fresh water tank the last time we entered Canada!
They didn't find anything, but I did get a lecture, because Americans are allowed to bring one (1) case of 24 cans into Canada ... I was carrying a 30-can case.
Well, actually, I was carrying two 30-can cases of beer ... one for Pam and one for me.
I pleaded ignorance ... saying I though the law allowed one "case" of beer per person, not specifying the number of cans in the case.
The officer said, "Well, using that logic, what's to stop a guy from bringing across a 100-can case of beer, eh?"

Camping costs
We camp in Washington vs. BC as much as possble now. We figure by the time we buy a couple tanks of gas and a case of beer, not to mention the cheaper groceries in Washington our camping is free compared to here. You know what BC stands for don't you?.....................Bring Cash
The BC government has handed the operation of Provincial Parks to private operators who are never there at night so our experience in BC has been that there is always at least one group of rowdys who party into the wee hours.....not the peace and quiet we look for.
I had no idea there was a limit on the beer Americans could bring in to Canada. Makes sense though, the government gets their cut on everything you buy here and their greed is limitless. 14.5% sales tax for example

Canadian beer is good beer but when you can buy Canadian Beer in the U.S. for half of what you pay for it at home it makes you wonder

Now that is two reasons why I quit both.I also live on BC/Alberta boarder.Gas at home here is cheaper than in Alberta and that includes Smokes and Beer.Things are changing.Love living on the Provincial Boarders.:wave

i raise my labatts blue in support
but at 7.25 a 12pack in virginia it just makes sense to bring it back north 9.95 in tupper lake ny . Glad i have that big ol pick up now!

I could bring in one case.
So we had two cases ... but they were 30-can cases ... the law states each US person can bring one 24-can case into Canada.
He remarked on the 30 versus 24 cans ... but he let me through.
They really looked high and low through both the tow vehicle and the trailer, looking (I thought) for guns and drugs ... but in reality, I found out later, the Canadian customs guys were looking for cigarettes and booze.

Scotties RV park
Scotties RV park in Creston BC. Just north of Idaho. I had no idea this little gem of an RV park has such an exquisite view! And the RV park really is a gem for one or two nights to take the edge off traveling.

From a guy that drinks maybe 6 beers a year, if that, I'd pay whatever the cost for a 6 pack of Molson XXX. XXX rocks, everything else "pales" in comparrison.

The thing we all must keep in mind is this:
Supposedly, Ben Franklin said :
''Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.''
I love that and in fact have it on a T-Shirt that I bought in the Amana Colonies last year.
So, let us not forget that all things have a price. Sometimes it's more than we want to pay but it may be worth it.

My opinion, beer is still relatively cheap compared to most pleasures in life. Even at $34/24pk....that's only a $1.41 ea.....almost the same as a pop/soda from a vending machine.
I look at it this way, If you stayed in a Hotel and took a Bottle/Can of your favorite brew from your mini-bar it would probably cost you $4, so being in a FGTT we save enough $$$ to indulge.
Karen and I both like the darker draft micro brews <img src=http://www.eco.ab.ca/beer2.gif/>
I dont think they let you take Keg's over the border though.
Could we just tell them we only have one can?

Lower Standards
You all simply need to lower your standards on the brand of beer. The lower your standards, the lower the price! Heck, after a few they all taste the same anyway...right? :cheers

beer prices
I started drinking presidents choice (super store) costs about $24 for 24.
It is made by Labatts and a good tasting beer. Can't really tell the difference between it and the regular priced beer. Its worth a try
