Coincidenally to all this, I got caught up tonight in a Kevin Spacey movie called
"The Shipping News".
Surely it must serve to further obfuscate international understanding... good movie though!

Ken, welcome and sorry if this silly thread caught you by surprise. As said all in good humour or we hope it is.

You fit right in on this thread as the rest of us are as well or I suppose we are actually more tongue in cheek

The USN has never been good at getting to sea without collisions but sometimes this has been used to advantage. I believe the RCN has little to fear if they drive on their side of the ocean.

I don't think anybody has to worry too much about collisions at sea with the Canadian navy, I understand that our submarine is still in dry dock after a fire at sea several years ago.

Sorry Jim am going to blame it on my Apple it always wants everything the American way!

re our subs, we had 4 we kept parked at the West Edmonton mall just in case anyone to the south got some big idea to try and take over our oil fields in Alberta. Apparently that threat faded away as it turns out our oil fields are a bit to hot of a political topic, even for the politicians in Texas, as our fields make theirs look like a Greenpeace retreat. So we bought a couple of new subs from our Queen's Royal Navy to actually put out on the water on both coasts. Turns out they really were not all that new either and had actually been scraped by the RN already and so far they seem to be enjoying their first few years of retirement in Victoria where they decorate the local shipyard.

Currently this is about all we have that actually floats. Oh and PLEASE note the gun - yes we are to be feared!

Please also note the hockey helmet...yes...the only thing more menacing would be the addition of the stick to go with...then I'd be REALLY afraid.

Yup its been reported to have cost millions! We need it though to defend our North West Passage.

Oh and dont think for a minute that thing isn't loaded up to the gunnels with hockey sticks! Its a well know fact that most Canadians are far more deadly accurate in finding their target with a hockey stick than a gun!

Oh and dont believe what you might of heard in regards to us not having any aircraft carries. We got some of those as well!!

BE AFRAID!

Newfoundland declares war on the US:

President Barrack Obama was in the Oval Office wondering which country to invade next, when his telephone rang.

"Hallo, President Obama" a heavily accented voice said. "This is Archie, up ere at the Harp Seal Pub in Badger's Cove, Newfoundland, Canada eh? I am callin' to tells ya dat we are officially declaring war on ya!"

"Well Archie," Barrack replied, "This is indeed important news! How big is your army?"

"Right now," said Archie, after a moments calculation "there is myself, me cousin Harold, me next-door-neighbor Mick, and the whole dart team from the pub. That makes eight!"

Barrack paused. "I must tell you Archie that I have one million men in my army waiting to move on my command."

"Holy jeez," said Archie. "I'll have ta call ya back!" Sure enough, the next day, Archie called again. “Mr. Obama, the war is still on! We have managed to acquire some infantry equipment!"

"And what equipment would that be Archie?” Barrack asked.

"Well sir, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Harry's farm tractor."

President Obama sighed. "I must tell you Archie, that I have 16,000 tanks and 14,000 armored personnel carriers. Also I've increased my army to one and a half million since we last spoke."

"Lard T'underin' bye", said Archie, "I'll be getting back to ya."

Sure enough, Archie rang again the next day. "President Obama, the war is still on! We have managed to git ourselves airborne! We up an' modified Harrigan's ultra-light wit a couple of shotguns in the cockpit, and four byes from the Legion have joined us as well!"

Barrack was silent for a minute then cleared his throat. "I must tell you Archie that I have 10,000 bombers and 20,000 fighter planes. My military complex is surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And since we last spoke, I've increased my army to TWO MILLION!"

"Jumpins," said Archie, "I’ll have ta call youse back."

Sure enough, Archie called again the next day. "President Obama! I am sorry to have to tell you dat we have had to call off dis 'ere war."

"I'm sorry to hear that" said Barrack. "Why the sudden change of heart?"

Well, sir," said Archie, "we've all sat ourselves down and had a long chat over a bunch of pints, and come to realize dat dere's no way we can feed two million prisoners."

CANADIAN CONFIDENCE CANNOT BE SHAKEN!

I see that there's an extra "r" in "Barack" when rendered in Canadian...

We can't help it if he spells his name wrong.
Not a common name up here. A few of use Jims around though.
