Canadians: Should I fear them?

For those from the south heading up to the Newfoundland Fiberglass trailer meet this summer here is a link to a quick review of Newfoundland English and a translation to commonly heard phrases - might want to read ahead of time so you have some idea as to what is being said!

Same for anyone visiting Fort McMurray Alberta on your next trip north. Newfoundland English is starting to take a good hold there are well as many fisherman have taken up working the oil fields instead.

A bit of free-form spelling is fine. I appreciate that Canadians show some class by using a form of address which conveys respect for the office of President of the U.S. (even in jokes) and it is devoutly to be desired that U.S. citizens would show this same level of public courtesy and respect for their current Commander-in-Chief, for the Canadian Prime Minister, and for heads of government around the world. Irreverence at home is healthy, in public not so much. If we're all at home here and still able to remember we're in public, we'll find the sweet spot I think.

Me may get the spelling wrong sometimes but at least we know the US Presidents name & what city in the US he works in

Don't be so sure, Carol- evidently, 75% of Canadians don't even know who their own Head of State is, let alone where that person may dwell!

LOL Francesca I am still pretty sure most Canadians can and will tell you who the US President is and where he lives. Note I didnt say most Canadians know who our own Head of State is -who as you now know isnt our Prime Minster.

Yeah, that's why I love it when the questions on Jepardy are about Canada. That's the one time we can predictably beat the smart people

There is something very scary about Canada. And I am being very serious about this. There is one thing that most definitely scares me about Canada, and it is an unavoidable, unspeakable horror that everyone in the US should be worried about. Canadians really don't truly understand how scary it is, although many of them leave Canada as frequently as the can because of this. The ones close to the border understand because the fear goes away the moment they get into the US and yet they regurn to Canada, still longing for the US. That dressed horror that I fear most bout Canada--the prices for everything! Everything cost 25% more there!

This is so true! There is no good explanation for this, other then we are a nation of poor shoppers. Cross border shopping has always been common.

But for many jobs, the pay is 25% higher too, so it is all relative. I have talked to other folks that own renovation and home building companies like me, and I pay a good carpenter at least 25% more than they would. I believe this is true with many other trades too. I do know that this is not true in the medical professions, that many can make more in the US.

If anything it is even worse. Since those of us who are over 3 hrs from the border don't have the option of going south to shop, we are even more frustrated by the prices we find on the internet, which we don't have access to.

LOL you do realize that means most Canadians understand. 90% of us live within a hundred miles of the border. For many cross border shopping is a weekly thing. We get the best of both countries.
