Caps don't have to be mounted permanently. I bought a used aluminum cap to put on my '86 D150 and kept it on with 4 C-clamps. Easy to remove when desired.

We have a cap similar to the 122 on our Ranger. We love it! Lots of room to keep things dry and when we go to the drive-in we just turn the truck around and put an air mattress in the back even if it's raining! =D

The windows are tinted, so if we are backing our trailer up and it's getting dark, I just lift open the back window as we reverse to get more of a clear view. No biggee.

Ii have had both and each has it's purpose. Our trifold tonneau was the handiest.it could be removed for storage in a minute. Remember as someone stated here "S### expands to fill the available space" .
A cap looks great and covers a lot. A tonneau looks cool and gives great visibility. The final choice for your purpose is yours alone.

I'm confused, but that's easily done. Wouldn't the trailer be all you see if you were backing it up? And isn't that what side mirrors are for?

True, it seems to be human nature for us humans to expand into whatever space we have available....which is why I've stopped buying larger pants.

I've had both. The caps are more water resistant than the tonneaus. The rear door on Donna's seems even better. My tonneau is a roll up. It is harder to take off than a cap. The newer version has the ability to add a rack above.

I agree with the mileage comments, a cap to trailer = less wind jamming effect than a tonneau. If you think of it the tonneau mfg's say a 10% increase in gas mileage. I would expect the same when towing a trailer with a cap.

Got a call yesterday. Cap has arrived. Went over this afternoon and picked it up (installed). Didn't have time to get any pics but will try to get them tomorrow. After we picked it up, I filled my truck up at the station I always use in that town. Checked the mileage and noted in my log book that it now has a shell on it. So am anxious to see how the mileage will be affected, if at all. Will keep you posted.

We've had it snow twice that I can remember.
Both times maybe up to an inch, and by the next day it was gone.

Nice looking cap! I'd like to go that route on my Taco but the Tonneau is all my back can deal with after the 8 or 9 inches of snow I had to clean out of the driveway this morning!
