Cargo Carrier
I recently ordered a cargo carrier, it is very small, 20 X 36... I would like to use this carrier to hold a rubbermaid (actionpacker). This box will hold the extras, electrical cord, water hose, tv cable,etc... I would like to put the Honda Generator on it, locked, when the generator is in use. Has anyone tried pulling a Scamp with a small cargo carrier on the back? This is a 13 foot...

I'm assuming this is a platform extension type add on.
The only problem I have heard of is the weight will throw off the tongue weight. could make the trailer front light. if you keep this in mind then I guess it would work, but I've never done it. I almost bought someone's trailer with an add on box in the back of a 16ft. they say it didn't affect anything, :shg but he was selling so - maybe we can get a doer to post and talk about their experiences.

If I had a box on the back of the Burro, I would just have the wife add some more of her stuff to the front seat area.
What's another 500 lbs or so?

Cargo carrier (Box)
We added one to our StarPad (13' Scamp) I moved the spare under the trailer and mounted the box in the spares place. I should say our old trailer we are delivering it to the new owner this weekend. and will head up to get the new one in about 6 weeks.<img src=http://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/uploads/3edc35914787dpad.jpg/>

The box looks cute, I have seen that picture before.....
I have actually added a cargo carrier, and will put a rubermaid, lock box on top... Nice to have some storage and a place for the generator when it is in use... It will be off the ground and can be chained to the cargo carrier.

My 76 Scamp roof has a sag in the top so I built this rack out of bent conduit so I can lift the roof up. Keeps the pond off the roof now. Added benefit is the load I can store up there. The box is on a cargo tray meant for SUVs that I attached to the rack in the back. It tips up exposing my spare tire mounted under it. Also the lisence plate hinges down when the rack is up....
I bought this Scamp for $300 a few months ago. It was absolutely rotten. In fact, I took no pictures of it at that time because I didn't want to be embarrassed having anyone think I got ripped off.
So, new trailer lights, floors, remount door and reline door interior, all cabnetry removed, cleaned sanded, reinstalled, demand water heater, butcher block galley top, double basin sink, no stove, all windows removed and resealed, AC mounts in rear side window, new 15 gal water tank with electric pump .... on and on....

painted egg
My egg does have a name...
Since I did everything low cost as possible...
I'm calling it the SKIMP.
I used Acryllic paints to do the art work. Have yet to paint a river-rock foundation as the outlines may be seen.

The rack also holds a person or two on the roof...
This way at an event called Burningman I can climb up for the view.

It does stick...
When I went to find paint for this scamp, I didn't want to do a gel coat. As I said I'm doing this on the cheap.. Gel coats and their ancillary requirements was going to cost too much and this wrinkled old trailer would have looked like a shiny prune all dimpled and such.
So a friend who retired from Sherwin Williams recommended I try Sher-Cryl. A durable exterior acryllic based paint that is their best. $50 a gallon... Less than a third of the Gel-coast cost and much simpler to paint on with a brush.
Hence, The colored Acryllic paints stick quite well. I am going to put a clear hard coat over it all when I'm done.
Keep in mind that this scamp has already had a full life and I'm not really interested in how it will look in twenty years from now, like I would be if I had bought new....

Mine is older as well, so although I paid a lot more and it is in much better condition than yours started out, I have decided to customize away. :dance

Don't be afraid to paint your old Trillium...
I've found it fun and relaxing too..
I found a few better photos of the work in progress...
Don't take many work-n-progress pics... I just seem to do the work and then wish I had taken more photos...

Sorry but I meant to show the cargo rack with this picture.

This photo shows the box best. I have lowered the box rack a couple of inches which allows my tail lights to be easily seen when down... when up the rack is above the lights... Tire under rack...
In fact with a couple of bolts I can move the rack to any height to serve as a table if I wish...
I didn't put a stove in the galley as shown above, but there is a double basin sink and I have a nifty Coleman road-trip grill which fits into this box perfectly....
Also this box does not interfere with the rear window opening...
I did plan that.
