My wife and I and our relatives and neighbors have been trying to log on to Casita Club for months! Originally we were looking at a new Casita but reading things here we will probably slow that down some. The Escape seems worth investigation. But what is with the Casita Club? They wont allow you to join if you have Yahoo, Gmail, or Hotmail email account. That's just crazy. What the heck is going on? Dave and Emma

Although I don't know for a fact, I can imagine they've had problems with spam and inappropriate posts (pornography, etc.) from people who use those "free" accounts. We've had similar trouble here, although so far we haven't taken the step of banning such addresses. Also, on this site there are a bunch of us who share the workload, so approving new registrations is (hopefully) pretty quick. (We try to get to them several times a day.)

I hope this helps. (And welcome to FiberglassRV.com!!)

Or, better yet - ask here. Several of us on this board have Casitas, and like to talk about them also.

David and Emma, I am in the boat with you guys, cause I have gmail. But, as Mary said lot's of Casita's here so you can ask away and somebody will offer info. As well as Escape owners here. But you do realize your looking a two very different trailers, so you won't be comparing apples to apples.

I was a member on the Casita forum before switching to gmail, and honestly this forum moves faster and with just a much great info. Best of luck on finding your new trailer. Robin

Not sure what is happening at casitaforums, but I've been trying with no success to verify a new account there for 3 months with a normal email address. When you click the link to send a question to the webmaster the email gets returned to you.

I don't have any of those free email accounts.

In June I decided to stop going to the Casita sites. For the past year or two I have had nothing but trouble trying to log on. I go through the hassle of asking for a new password and then the next time I try to log on, again I can't. Not worth the frustration and time.

I'll stick with this site and the Yahoo Scampers group.

This is right from the New Registration Guidelines on the CasitaClub:
Quote:
[b]***DUE TO SECURITY CONCERNS, Anyone Using "Free" E-Mail Addresses will No Longer Have the Ability to Register*** We do not spam, nor do we sell email addresses. We keep all email addresses private.

.......<snip>

***PLEASE BE AWARE, DUE TO SECURITY CONCERNS, THE ADMIN OF THIS SITE MANUALLY APPROVES ALL NEW MEMBERS, -AFTER- THEY HAVE VALIDATED THEIR ACCOUNT AND RESPONDED TO THE FOLLOW-UP EMAIL AFTER VALIDATION*** Please be patient, your account will be validated after you have responded to the follow-up email. **DO NOT SEND REPEAT EMAILS, AS IT WILL CAUSE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS TO BE FLAGGED AS SPAM AND GO DIRECTLY INTO THE SITE TRASH CAN**

I think the "Club" in the Casita Club title is now pretty literal... a [b]closed club maybe.

I see they finally put in a captcha and those will stop all but the most sophisticated state of the art spam-bots. So I don't buy the spam reason.

I gotta believe management over there is pretty happy with the status quo and not too interested in getting new members. Webmail is the norm these days so if you want to eliminate over half the web population then just exclude gmail, yahoomail, hotmail, and a host of others.

Not to mention that Hotmail has pay accounts too. I have a friend with a "paid" hotmail account.

I feel bad for Eric, the owner of CasitaClub. He has no help. There's a bunch of moderators/ administrators here. You wouldn't believe the amount of time we spend chasing away spammers and those that want to post porn. It's a never ending battle, and almost a full-time job. We too have had to change the way we do business. Even though a new member has to validate through e-mail, it still requires an administrator to approve. All that takes time, not only for us, but the member waiting to "join." Eric is footing the entire bill for his site. He doesn't pay anyone to fix problems or monitor activity. And he has to earn a living. So for those that are waiting to join, do what you can to help him by following the simple rules he has in place. Your e-mail is safe with him, just like here. If you have an ISP, whether a company like Comcast or whatever, you have a "paid" e-mail account.

You guys do a great job.
One of the things that makes your job easier -- in my opinion -- is the format of this site.
Breaking it down into multiple subsets of interests not only makes it harder for a spam-bot to broadcast their message it also keeps those with special interests isolated from others who just want to shoot the breeze (the Cheers environment).
Example, you would not have a heated discussion of Khumo vs Marathons here... you would move it to some other place.

You should look into captcha to make your job easier.

Just sayin

PS I have an ISP but still use webmail... remember trojan Outlook scripts?

I have been a member of Casita CLub for a couple years but am unable to get in. I have my email with my cable company so I pay for it.
I must say that I do like the Fiberglassrv site and have gotten many problems solved with help of the members advice. Thanks

Like I said I have a paid account it hasn't changed for eons and I had been a member of both Casita sites for eons. But in recent years I have been having to jump through more hoops than I care to, to continue on those sites.

FiberglassRV.com is tops. I always enjoy logging on here where, naturally, the range of experience is greater. My thanks to all those who help run this FiberglassRV site.

However, , I've been trying to learn as much as possible from available sources (I pick-up my Casita in October), and I've struggled to post on CasitaClub. I have a story similar to some earlier posters: I've been a "member" over there for several months now, but have never been able to enter into the discussion. I've tried many time to get "approved" but things never seem to work out. They've been a valuable resource... but the info flow is all one way.

And, yes, I do have a paid email account.

By the way: Does anyone know the trick to entering the Tire Forum on CasitaClub? It used to be easy to find.

This is only for people who have registered, but are now waiting for their posting ability to be approved!

Please email the following information by using the email link below:

Subject = Registration

1) The exact E-Mail Address you signed-up with.
2) The exact Username you signed-up with.
3) The exact amount of 19 minus 7.

mailto:register[at]casitaclub.com

I am taking this action due to the increased attacks by spammers. I am unable to handle the individual emails, as there are 100's of spam emails coming in. I have removed the ability for any new registrations to use one of the numerous "free" email accounts. This was another step taken to eliminate the spammer registrations.

Please do not email any other requests or any other information except what is listed to this email address, as it will be filtered out.

Sincerely,

Eric A. Mayer

This is incredibly illogical.
I own a few sites but "Hundreds of spam attacks per day?"
Hundreds that get by automated email reply confirmation, capthca, AND manual approval?
That would take hundreds of people daily bothering to go to the troble for what, a $0.20 click?
Casita Club doesn't have enough readers to go to this trouble.
There is no pay back.
Forums with 100,000 more members don't go to these lengths just for spam.

I think Eric may have gotten caught up in a war with permanently banned members who are playing with him.
Too bad if true.

I agree Ron, I have quite a number of websites including several forums and we have no problems with spam attacks. It is very easy to add CAPTCHA and I'm getting ready to add it to ours just in case, but I haven't experienced what Eric is saying. I feel bad for him, because these things should be an automated process and not require manual intervention. Once they do, it would indeed become a nightmare. Sure hope he can resolve it.
