Casita scam??

I just saw on our local craigslist a 17' Casita with a too good to be true description & $6200 price! After a little research I found it posted on craigslist all over the US, including NY, CT, CA, PA & FL and probably other states. No location or phone # in ad, just an email address. Looks like the Scamp scam that was around a while back where if you responded to the ad you were told that the trailer was at a shipping company and could be shipped anywhere in the country for free. I read your first Casita search posting, Shelley. Glad you are on top during your Casita search.
When we go to the rally in IN in May, we see lots of Casitas, so they are out there. You may need to drive though. We went from IL to AK to get our Uhaul.

Where in IA? I am from near Cedar Rapids.

Cindy, i am in Western Iowa, a little town called Soldier. No one has ever heard of it until lately. We have a bar in town that has a couple of motorcycle rallys a year. I scan surrounding states in Craigslist. Maybe now that spring is getting closer, people will have more ads listed. We had a 13 foot burro when we were first married and had a u haul as well. Anyway, thanks for posting, i gotta get back to work, on my noon hour now.

We have bought and sold on Craigslist. You just have to be careful and have all your ducks in a row. I just sold an i pod today. Guy came to my office and paid me. Couldn't have been easier....

In a way it is kind of a compliment that scammers choose egg trailers, knowing that people are always looking to buy one. I see this, too, with popular small compact utility tractors.

When I see a "good" deal, I cut and paste a portion of the text into Google and it usually spits out 10 different cities with the same ad.

Not only for our egg trailers, but Autos, trucks, boats, and not only on craigslist, e-bay, local classifieds seems the product is always somewhere else when you want to inspect it, so buyer beware.........bought my egg off craigslist, no problem....

I buy stuff on CL too, never had a problem. BUT, it's not for thousands of dollars and I never send any money in advance!

Bought my '85 Scamp 13 off CL a year ago (still working on restoration ). Had to drive approx 150mi to inspect & close the deal. If the seller won't talk to me in person (on the phone) & set up a time/place for me to view the item, I'll pass. For anything that costs more'n a few $$ they hafta meet me in a very public place or have a 'posted' address that I can map & check via google earth or similar. I don't go to any apt complexes/'projects' or into areas that arouse my suspicion, nor do I give my home address until/unless I've talked to a person & get a feeling for the deal. I've bought & sold several items thru CL. Most items on CL are legitimate but there are 'vultures' everywhere & being cautious makes sense. I'm retired USAF, & 15yrs LEO afterwards so 'checking out' folks/items is 2nd nature for me.

Some folks on this forum who are nearer the sellers will often check out trailers for you too, before you have to make the drive.

That's another of the great things about this forum Cindy, the knowledgeable & helpful folks here. I didn't even know about FG RV when I bought the Scamp but I've gained invaluable information since then. Thanks all!
