I have a California permanent trailer identification card for my 1996 13' Scamp. It states that the VLF Class is "AK" and the Type Veh is "47W". Not sure what these codes are or if they are what you need. Good luck working with the DMV!

Thanks for all your help!

It turns out what's required is a nice and knowledgeable DMV rep and everything is a piece of cake. I went to the DMV office that only does vehicle registration in Hollywood and I got my CA permanent trailer tag and on my merry way in about 10 minutes. She questioned nothing. Body type is CMP, Type VEH is 43C, Type LIC is PA.

If you have a vehicle in LA to register go to the one at
936 N Formosa Ave.

Hi Curt,
I have two 13' Scamps that I rent out in the Sacramento area and will be adding a third when I register it on Monday. I can find out anything you need.
My Pink slips both show the model is cmp of course. The class on one pink slip is VU and the other is AN.
Never had a problem at the DMV here in Woodland Ca. (Great People)

A 13" Scamp falls under what Ca. DMV calls a PTI plate.
It's a permanent registration that cost $10.00 for 5 years.
It's called a paperless title.
If you want an official title that will cost you an extra $15.00.
There is a special DMV Bill of Sale form for PTI trailers.
If you sell it out of state you may need the actual title.
Virtually any trailer 16' or under qualifies for the PTI registration.
It's the ONLY good deal you will ever get out of the State of California.

If your DMV has never registered a PTI trailer you may have to have them call Sacramento as I did the first 13' Scamp I ever registered.
