Comparing 17ft Bigfoot to 17ft Casita LD
I wasn't sure just where this would fit in so just made it a new thread, hope that's okay. We currently own a 17FT 2011 Liberty Deluxe Casita which we are selling to upgrade to a Bigfoot 2500 17ftG.
My question is, would we be benefitting ourselves in space? We find that the Casita is just not enough space for us to "live" in and, though we love how easy it is to pull, we really need just a bit more elbow room ;-) I've been told the Bigfoot offers more space and hoping that the 17.5G would give us that extra room and still be easy to pull...
Thanks for your help!

I'll be interested to hear what Bigfoot/Casita owners have to say about your question!
Here are my "non-owner" impressions, for what they're worth:
In terms of pure "space", the Bigfoot is 16" wider and has a couple more inches of headroom.
It may be that the way space is used makes a difference in the "feel" of the space, too. For example, my casual look at the Liberty floorplan and that of one Bigfoot 17 ( 17.5G) model leaves me with an impression of more openness in the Bigfoot due to its having windows at both ends.

I believe the BigFoot is 8' wide vs the narrower Casita. It is also taller inside. It is also a lot heavier due to better construction and components. It can be 4 season and is double hulled. Space size it maybe 20% based upon the width and height, floor space it will appear larger because of side bath gives your longer unobstructed floor area than the Casita.

I personally dont own either, but have been in both. I find the Bolar to have more ELBOW room. I also think it is built better for all season camping. Also think the Boler has more character than the Casita.

I've owned both also a u-haul VT and a Scamp 5-er.
We like the Bigfoot best. The galley area gives you plenty on space to move round in while cooking. The 30 plus gallon water tank, nice bath, oven and large windows are hard to beat.

If I may ask a slightly off-topic but perhaps still relevant question of you, Mike and Sara:
Were the Bigfoot/Casita towed by the same vehicle, and if so what if anything can you tell us about differences in fuel economy between them?
Thanks!
Francesca

Great responses
Thank you all! I'm definitely thinking the BigFoot is the way to go (but might just check out the Boler too ;-) !!! Appreciate all your opinions, that helps when you know NOTHING of a particular make and model. Keep 'em coming!

FYI, Sharon:
Bolers have been out of production since the '80's and are a lot smaller than both Bigfoot and Casita....

I towed both with the wife's Mariner. The Casita got better mileage than the Bigfoot, hands down. (14.5 vs 10 )
The Bigfoot loaded maximizes the Mariners GTW of 3500 lbs.
I use our Dodge Ram 5.7, you don't know it's behind you until you need gas.
12.5 mpg on a good day

If space is your main concern, have you looked at the Escape 19?

19ft Escape
We haven't had the opportunity to see the Escape; do you know of a 19ft Escape for sale? Would love to take a look. Thank you! Sharon

The Boler model which is comparable to a Casita 17' or a Bigfoot 17.5' is the B1700; it is roughly the same length, wider than the Casita but narrower than the Bigfoot, and much closer to the Casita than the Bigfoot in body construction and weight.
Yes, all Boler models are long out of production. The 13' B1300 is by far the most common, the 17' B1700 second (can usually be found in my area), and the others are very obscure.
Another model of possible interest to someone looking for more elbow room in a 17' egg would be a widebody 17' Burro... even less common than a Boler B1700.

The other bigger models that come to mind are the Trillium 5500 and the Biggar... both obscure products of long-gone companies.

Thanks guys, I'll check those out! Jim, we may just wait around until fall when you upgrade to the 21ft Escape and talk to you about your 19 footer ;-)

No longer in the tooth nor more out of business than most Bolers and Biggars and even Bigfeet is Burro with a "wide body" 17 footer. 92" wide OA. 84" inside. Expect MPG penalty due to larger than average frontal area similar to that of Bigfoot but weight comparable to Casita.

1990 17ft Bigfoot
We are such newbies at this! We kind of rushed into purchasing our Casita only to realize a few months later that we need a little more space. I'm hoping we don't make another costly mistake on our next purchase
We hadn't considered an older model trailer but just came across a 1990 Bigfoot posted earlier this year on this website that has been updated, looks very nice in the pics AND is still available. We are taking a look at it this weekend as it is within 10 miles of us!!! In your opinions, which I truly appreciate, what should we be concerned with the most in an older trailer such as this?

What are you using to tow? The Bigfoot is very well constructed and very heavy compared to others. Do you plan to upgrade the tow as well?
