Considering a Fiber Steam

I'm looking at a Fiber Stream, but the owners posting on this Forum cause concern. Is the frame so weak that I need to install new steel supports? I also read a post that implied the Fiberglas was weak or thin compared to other campers. I don't want to start out with a pile of junk! Should I be looking at a Casita or other camper?

All campers can all have there share of problems it all depends on how the PO took care of it.

Thanks, I hope so. I need to make a decision pretty soon. I was looking at used Casitas when I ran across the Fiber Stream.

Maybe if you told us your expectations in a trailer we could help you better.
Are you looking for a classic trailer? Then it doesn't get much better.
Are you looking for a trailer that doesn't need any repairs or updating. Than, the Fiber Stream isn't for you. Unless you were buying it from Fred.
Can you do all the repairs yourself?
What is your budget?
What will you be towing with?
Myself, I would love to find a Fiber Stream to bring back to life.

I don't think it needs much unless I just have an urge to make improvements. I'm fairly handy, but do not want anything needing a total rebuild. I have an F150 4x4 Eco Boost. Pulling won't be a problem. I was mainly interested in how well Fiber Streams were originally built. My budget is flexible. My goal is to be able to get my money back out of the camper when I sell it.

You will find lots of info about them there.
Not knowing what the asking price and what need to be done it would be hard to put a value on it.
You will see Fred's trailer in that section, open his trailer and press on his name in the top left. And select PM private message and send him a note and number.
His trailer is first class, and if anyone knows Fiber Stream its him.
I buy sell and trade trailers all the time. I could see myself over spending bringing a Fiber back to new condition.
The key thing is to not to over pay in the first place.
And to see past the dirt and grim, and what it will cost you to make repairs.
Many are junk and you need to walk away. But, people are lazy and will give away hundred dollar bills. Because they won't take the time to wash wax or clean.
That's the ones I'm always looking for.

From my completely outside perspective, (I have never even seen a Fiberstream) The only thing I have heard that would concern me is that they have no insulation. Condensation, when it gets cold, and noise when it rains. Otherwise I have only heard good things about these campers.

Thanks for the tip. I wonder if other Fiberglass Campers such as Casitas have double walls for insulation.

Older trailers had something called Ensolite. It is a 1/4" black foam covered in an off white vinyl. The modern version is a metallic bubble wrap and a brown liner, commonly referred to as "Rat fur". Casitas have carpet on the walls. Other trailers have a double hull, like the Burro. I am not sure if there is any insulation between the two layers of fibreglass.

The Fiberstream is just painted. The only trailer that I know of that has no insulation.

We have a CT13 Uhaul, almost identical to a Burro, and there is no insulation between the inner & outer hulls. We also own a Casita 17 and really like it. At least Casita's are still being made.

I like the FS and wouldn't mind having one. I've always liked the sound of rain on the roof so to me a single wall shell is fine. I really like the tandem axles they have but the down side is you can't really increase the tire size. PM Fred for info. I've PMed him a few times, he's loaded with info. BTW, can you give us the lowdown on the FS you're looking at ?

I must confess to making a mistake in this thread. I thought I was quoting xocy's post #8, and it turned out I had hit my "Edit" button by mistake.
I had garbled up his post. Mia Culpa!

The gist of what I was trying to say was that if xocy needs to be able to get his money back, then he should concentrate on buying a newer Casita. Old Fiber Streams (not made since 1986), much like Historic Houses, are money pits if you cannot tolerate less than today's level of quality.

I have been interested in an FS too. I found one and PM'd Fred with a couple a Qs and he was very helpful.
Still on the fence on it as it looks like a real PROJECT!
