Counting the days

But not the hours & minutes (yet). On Dec 24 I'm pointing south. I'll get to Indianapolis that day and stay there until Dec 29 for family Christmas. Then I head toward Arizona. Gotta be there before Jan 5 because I pick up my elder son on the 5th. He'll be with me until the 12th when I drop him at the airport for his flight back to Michigan. After that I'll probably be roaming around the state or possibly staying a while in or near the Verde Valley. Really itchy to get going. This will be the first time I'll have made that 2000 mile trip alone. The EggCamper is partially loaded.

Bob, Drive carefully; we're having a particularly rugged winter and the mid-west is feeling the brunt of it. So far in our travels across the south this has been the coldest winter in our 13 years.

Hope to be in the Cottonwood area after xmas. then to the Tucson area around new years. Casita being pulled by a dark tundra with mo. plates and two little ole grey haired ladies just a rambling along .

Not far behind you Bob. The plans at the moment to leave the 26th. Getting to Katherine Landing around the first of Jan. We weren't too crazy about Cottonwood, from Katherine Landing probably head for Los Vegas Bay, then up to Death Valley.
I'm so ready to get out of this cold... Brrrr.

Hi Bob,

Please have a safe trip. When you get there, post some pictures so that those of us in the north can remember what sun and warmth are.

We are planning to head south on Christmas Eve Day, too. We plan to drive to Chattanooga, then to Tampa on Christmas Day. Finally to Marco Island KOA on the 26th. We'll be there until the 31st, then head back to Tampa for the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1. We'll head home to Oak Park starting on Jan. 2. We're hoping for warm weather in south Florida and safe travels in-between! Our only hold up right now is waiting on a new (to us) tow vehicle that is still at the dealer having some repairs done prior to our final purchase. We need to install a hitch and wiring (which I have), but would like to road test it before heading to Florida!

Safe travels, Bob!

Kevin, We recently left warm FL for cold Texas, freezing last night. Ginny reminds me every day, usually with a smile, what the temperature is in central FL, 83F today.

She's for turning around on this particularly cold fourth quarter. Of course NOAA projected a warmer than normal winter in the Southwest this year.

Perhaps consulting the Farmer's Almanac would have been better. Weather is always a bit of a gamble. From what the weatherman said this AM here in OK, another massive cold front should hit us around the 20th... colder than the recent/current one. I am with Ginny on this one, wishing I were in FL.

Mike, Norm is in the business of global warming, but where's the warming. We'd like a little.

Glad your planning to head out Bob. I hope you have a safe trip and find some warm weather which all of North America seems to be a bit short on currently.

I am very jealous of all the warm weather talk! Just got home from 10 days in Banff National park where the temps got to -40C (which is the same as -40 F) and colder with windchill...... warmest day was -23C but with winds of over 40 mph it felt colder than -40!

Ha Ha, we're the opposite. We would love to head North so it actually FEEEEELS like Christmas! There is something wrong with putting up lights and picking out a Christmas tree wearing shorts and flip flops in 85 degree temps.....hard to get in the Christmas spirit for sure.

Melissa in all too sunny Florida

Melissa,

Almost wish we were back there suffering with you.m Florida is about the only warm place in the USA. It snowed in Cairo, Egypt for the first time in 112 years. The Sun's output is at it's lowest level in 100 years.

I have to admit I may not get the same Christmas feeling as usual this year, but I've done 69 years (well, 68 since one was spent in Viet Nam) in the Northeast with the appropriate cold & snow, and I'm willing to experiment! It made it to 60°F today and was only down to 41°F last night here at Buckskin Mountain State Park in southern Arizona & I'm not complaining. Checked on home in upstate NY, and there is 6" of new lake effect snow and a high of 20°F today...

John - I lived in Rome NY for awhile and always wondered if that lake effect snow looked different from regular snow! Drove a VW bus so froze half to death regardless
