curious about title and selling

I have seen a Acorn listed for sale not far from me and it appears to be a decent shape. The year is not listed. I have never seen one stay listed for 10 days. I guess I am wondering if the title is scaring people away. Its listed as home-made title. ...Then again it has possibly sold and the owner simply forgot to take the ad down.

I passed last year on an Aliner I really wanted at a decent price because of title issues. Don't loose any sleep over not messing with questionable stuff.

Call and find out. "Homemade" may just be the make name shown on the title, but homemade FGRV's sound shaky at best and there are a lot of possible bad scenario's our there.

But as you said, if it's been up for more than a few days, don't bother

I should clarify, I am not shopping, I tend to scan the ads. When I noticed this ad still active, I was surprised , usually and FG trailer is snatched up within a day. I read the ad and the only thing I thought could be the reason was the Title. Got me thinking about if the title could really kill the sale.

I may be be wrong on this, but Acorns were made by Evelands around 1979. My understanding is that there was an issue with the name "Scamp" for trailers.

Evelands also sold trailer kits that you assembled yourself.

It is possible the trailer you are interested in might be considered homemade and titled as such. Might be worth your time searching here for more info. Maybe someone can pipe in with what they know.

On edit: add link to brocure for scamp kit

Buying a trailer that is titled as "homemade" should not be a problem. Buying a trailer with no title can be a huge problem.

The information about Acorns may shed a little light on the "Homemade" title.

But the SCAMP ad was interesting for a couple of other reasons:

1. "The Oldest" claim may be predicated on the word "Kit".

2. And being towed by an air-cooled Beetle???? How times and senses have changed.

In the case of a title question I always go to the issuing DMV and, if it happens to be out-of-state? Goodbye......

Mike has it right. Title is good, no title big problems in many areas.

In my neck of the world more than one trailer in recent years has been parted out in order to recoup money spent buying a trailer with no title that dispute their best efforts the buyers were unable to get the trailers titled into their name.

What Happened to Acorn?

I read the links about Acorn & Kits with great interest and the end of one thread seemed to say that Acorn was going to be added to the names on the home page. But what happened to these little nuts that may have fallen a bit far from the tree?????

Actually meaning, why wasn't the name included as was indicated?

I recall reading that Eveland was sued by the company that made "Scamper" trailers over the use of "Scamp". Until the issue was settled, Eveland used the "Acorn" name on their products. After settlement, the name Scamp was used.
