It was officially announced that the eagles have chosen the new nest for this years hatch which means no camera coverage. Plans are to install cameras next year on the alternative nest. The article stated this is typical behavior of having a second nest and the birds have not gotten tired of the cameras as a "certain" activity was observed in the old nest.
Very cool. Our Franklin Institute red-tailed hawks in Philadelphia - with a new male this year following the death of the old guy - have started doing some preliminary nest-buliding behavior on the Glaxo Smith Kline building. The "hawkaholics" are flipping out and demanding that the lady hawk "divorce" her new man hawk because they think the Franklin Institute window ledge is the better spot.
Yes, you heard that right. I hope some of them find more constructive hobbies this year than standing around yelling at birds.
Darn! I watched the Decorah webcam every single day last year from building the nest until the babies left the nest. It was so amazing and I learned so much. I didn't know that the daddy eagle took such an active role with the kidlings. I'll miss it this year.
