Hello,

My family and I recently toured a 17' Casita FD and were immediately smitten. Since used Casitas are hard to find in terms of model and location can someone share the bottom line for the following questions?

1. What is the true interior height in the 16'. The 17' has a 6' 1" clearance even though the brochure says 6' 3". I'm 5' 10" and had plenty of headroom clearance in the 17' and am concerned that I will have bend or stoop in the 16'.

2. I understand that the AC in the 16' is located under the closet.....so what is the true exterior height?

3. Both the 17' and 16' look identical from what we can see. So where is the 1' difference taken from?

Thanks,

Lance

Lance,

This doesn't address any of the three questions you asked, but there are other factors you should consider in comparing the 16' and the 17'.

The 16' has no screen door, so you can't leave the door open for ventilation. This is because the door on the 16' curves to match the hull of the trailer. That curvature can cause leakage problems in older trailers.

The 16' has a 2 cu ft refrigerator versus 4.5 cu ft in the 17'.

The tanks in the 16' are (I think) smaller than in the 17'. Some older 16' Casitas don't have a gray water tank.

ON EDIT: the 17' has a full 54" wide bed in back. I think the 16' has a 48" wide bed. That accounts for half of the extra foot.

Others may be able to address your specific questions.

Thank you. All of these differences are significant to us and have enabled us to decide on the 17'. Thanks again!

My wife and I looked at a couple of 16-foot Casitas and realized we would have to go for the 17-foot model. I'm 5'11" and I could not stand up straight in the 16-foot Casita.

Thanks Bob,

I'm 5' 10" .....so sounds like I wouldn't be able to stand up straight in a 16" as well. Think?

I wonder why not? All the Scamp's have the aircraft-style door and Scamp makes a screen door that works just fine. It's a bi-fold that folds completely out of the way when not needed...Casita ought to rethink this option.
