We've been using Dish for 12 years while traveling. We have it at home and on the road.

Initially we had a Winegard manual system where we would enter our zip code and it would tell us the angle. We would adjust the angle until a digital readout told us we were at the correct angle . We would than rotate the unit through the southern sky until we got a signal. It worked fine and generally would just take a couple of minutes.

The readout failed so we just set the angle ourselves and it still takes us just minutes.

As a result we've never spent the money to go fully electronic.

We spent a day with the s-i-l at their lake place.
We were talking about this and the Dish they have
at their lake place is actually a unit from their main house.
He said that way they only pay $5 dollars for their lake house.

He also said that's what they did when they had their travel trailer.
Just got a dish and hooked it up with the extra unit from home.
Dish replaced our units and I don't know if that would work for us.
I guess the chip just has to match the unit, not the location.
Unless they've changed that with the newer units. ????

I looked at a Tailgater. They have a pay as you go plan which is nice. The Tailgater requires a specific P/N receiver which you may also need to purchase if you don't already have one.

For those of you who have the Tailgater a security question or two. Looking at the instructions a cable and lock are suggested to secure the Tailgater. Knowing that a cable and/or lock can be cut, do you put the Tailgater in your trailer or tow vehicle when you leave? Or do you leave the Tailgater out?
