In over two years of camping, we've never run across an
awning installation like the one on our 02
Scamp. It's an A&E TrimLine (bag style) the previous owner had apparently installed (or had someone install) after purchasing the trailer from the factory. Its worked out fine but, at 8', is a bit short for our 16' egg and we've been thinking about going with something in the same style but a bit longer (11'-12'?).
After seeing all the posts here about mounting brackets and other installation issues I figured I'd get in touch with Dometic for their input. I can't say enough about the courtesy and professionalism extended by Ms Krista Smith in their Customer Service Department. She, and the tech staff she brought in provide additional expertise are a credit to the Dometic organization. I manage the training, implementation and support division of a relatively large software company and can only hope that we serve our customers that well.
Back to the
awning. Although Dometic confirmed the installation of our TrimLine was not 'standard', its a pretty simple concept that we'll probably stick with when we do upgrade to a longer model. It can be totally removed in a matter of seconds or left in the bag for transport (we've travelled from NC to TX with it mounted). On a couple of occassions when we've had it setup with the wind really gusting, it 'disconnected' itself from the trailer with no damage to the
awning or the
Scamp. Works for us.
