Brought home a Norcold NR751 from Eastern Marine this past Weds. $623 out the door. AC/DC operation, Danfoss/Secop compressor, 3.75A draw on DC, advertised as 2.8 feet cubed but my measurements and calculator give 2.5. More capacity than the old Dometic, less than the dorm fridge.

Yesterday I spliced the DC pigtail to the batt and gave it a shakedown. Today I pulled my B&D dorm fridge, raised the platform inside the cabinet 4.5", scrounged around for some alum. flat stock which I will pop rivet to the stock flange which @1/2" wide is bloody inadequate to cover opening and mounting holes for the B&D and the original Dometic percolator. I should be done by Monday when my wife returns from Chicago. Probably more batt and solar in the offing.

Another approach to consider if a good fridge isnt within your current means is a Yeti cooler - the best darn cooler ever made! those that have them wouldnt ever buy another brand. Very popular with outdoor guides as well as some of my camping buddies with small fridges that are to heavy on DC power use when dry camping.

Once you save up enough for a good fridge you will still have a cooler that is awesome at keeping your beverages cold for years to come.

We just went to Lowes and bought a 3.3 mini fridge that has a separate freezer compartment. It's not going in the trailer though, we'll put it in the screen room while we spend the winter in the south. Note to Jack, that smelly electric heater we had in there at the Copake rally went back to Walmart. Now trying a different one from Lowes. The burnt plastic smell never went away, call to company customer service resulted in them recommending we return it.

Had a nose for Jon's apple pie and didn't notice heater in screen house. Smell of burning plastic reminds me of those Coleman thermoelectric coolers. Took one of those back to ChinaMart afraid that the DC transformer would burn down the trailer.

The DC Norcold is also made in China??? Out of the box cooling performance appears as good or better than the dorm fridge in terms of cool-down time and max low temperature. 70F outside yesterday. Warm for this time of year here and comparable to AC-produced house temperatures year round but not as severe a test as any fridge will get in a hot trailer in summer temps.
