Maggie O ,
I don't agree with you, that was just stupid as I live about 1 hr from that road and I wouldn't take a 35' motor home on that road in the summer time because of loggers, hunters and site seers that drive to way to fast fast.
That road goes a long way from the Hwy. back in to no man's land, when they started to get in to the snow they should have turned around and went back to the Hwy.
It cost the family a lot of stress and took up a lot of law enforcements time. Jay

IBut WHY is this a national news story? Why is this reported as a survival story? Not too long ago they interviewed the people who had to hike out of the Andes (years ago) for ten days from a plane crash. That's a survival story.
And these guys hadn't even started eating each other like in the Andes event!

It's always fun to go to a restaurant with a group, give them a certain name, and get called:

Donner party of eight.

Must be the case. From the pictures I've seen they have a "REAL RV".

Now, now, they are Our People.

Perhaps they were confused, as it seems they bought a 35-foot RV!

I am sorry (this is the nicest chatline I have EVER seen) but buying a 35-foot RV seems to me to be too dumb to start off with. Never mind driving it thru snow, mountain passes, or past the four-way stop in yer neighbourhood!

Okay, I should shut up now! I am going to start saying mean yet humorous things!

Ya bought a WHAT???!! Ya tried to take it where???!!

Why do you need an RV bigger than my house? Got a whole lot of kids?

Like, 12?

Moderator, shut me down now! There are too many exclamation points in my post !!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen a few real RVs headed for the ski area. "Dread Naught". Maybe a V-shaped snowplow and tire chains would have helped these folks.

Oh, GREAT, Mike...

"Lost family found near charred RV after starting forest fire by firing emergency signal flares..." "Father quoted as saying, 'Shooting the signal flare seemed like a good idea at the time'."

I just had another thought... seventeen days for a family of six is a long time, and I don't recall any of the interviewers asking how large their black water tank really was! That's a long time to go without dumping!

Roger, why do you assume they didn't dump the tank?

Maybe a continuous dump?

We hold these truths to be self-evident... of COURSE they wouldn't dump the tanks... they're in a National Forest. They're stuck... and there's no dump station in sight! We all KNOW they wouldn't dump the tanks on bare ground... geez Patrick! Show some class!

From the news reports it pays to be dumb. That family apparently has been approached for movie and book rights.

Go figure......

What's worse? That they did something that involved such poor decision making; that the entire country is talking about their rescue as something miraculous; or that someone will find entertainment value in the drama of their travails?

The things that pass for entertainment in today's world are frightening.

Looks like they're on their way to that 40' Diesel Pusher with Humvee toad they always wanted!
