We had a bit of excitement here in Quartzsite yesterday. Those of you who have visited Q may be familiar with the "Pit Stop" business which supplies propane and fresh water as well as a sanitary dump station. These folks provide good, necessary services for RVer's who are boondocking on BLM lands as well as travelers just passin' thru. Our RV park is just across the highway ... convenient, but ...

Late in the afternoon, we heard a loud noise and the sound of a fire engine approaching. DH looked up to see a huge cloud of BLACK smoke rising from somewhere across the street! We did not witness the beginning of this incident, but it turned out to be a small motorhome which was, within moments, totally engulfed in flames. The Fire Department is to be commended for knocking the whole thing down in very short order. Sounded like at least one tire popped from the heat. A freeway wrecker arrived, loaded the remains of the MH and took it away; site cleanup was finished shortly thereafter. Apparently no injuries.

Now as you might imagine, rumors of the cause are flying around everywhere, so we have only heard second-hand info. However, the event certainly served as a reminder about unwittingly leaving pilot lights burning when fueling, etc. We feel a potential for disaster was averted by quick thinking and cool action on someone's part in moving the already burning MH AWAY from the large propane "bullet" tanks on the property ... had they exploded, none of us would have to worry about where we'll spend the summer!

If/when we learn the facts, we'll post 'em here ... as they say, "film at 11:00". Regards, L 'n D

L 'n D,
Thanks for the reminder... it's easy to forget things like a water heater pilot, or even turning on a light switch if the propane odor is present.

Stay safe,
Kurt & Ann K.
