First time Argosy buyer needs advice

I'm a first time used of this web site and am considering purchasing a 1987 32 foot Argossy by Fleetwood travel trailer in very good condition, but since they no longer manufacture these units, I could use some advice. cost is about $1,500 and I'm sure I'll by adding some update and repair costs to this, but the unit is very clean. It looks like it was a top of the line unit when it was sold in 1987 (lots of bells and whistles) and good quality construction, cabinets, A/C, like new awning the whole length of the unit, internal antenna controls, elec. stabilizers, etc.
I know nothing about this unit or model and the original owner is deceased, so any help, information, service manuals, or advice would be appreciated. thank you.

You've come to a forum who's focus is Molded Lightweight Fiberglass towables. Although your trailer may looks similar to the egg shaped trailers here, it's not the same. Your Argosy isn't molded fiberglass.

Wayne, that Argosy is by Thor, not Fleetwood. And lots of info can be found on our sister site, Airforums.com. Although it may look like fiberglass, the walls of the trailer were actually built using a bonded aluminum sheet process.

This site advertises Jaco and other Non-Molded Fiberglass Campers then gets all up tight when someone with a non-molded fiberglass RV asks a question.

Over 90% of the questions on this site apply to all towable RV’s and if you want to build the membership and gain revenue through the sites you feature (RV Dealers - Jaco - etc) then why not have a forum for these people?

As far as what is molded and what is not, isn’t all fiberglass molded? Sprayed or hand laid in a positive or negative mold or laminated on top and pressed into a flat panel, is that not molded?

Hi Art. To answer your question for the purposes of this site, molded means no inner frame. There are several really good forums on the Worldwide Web that address issues for framed trailers. We don't get uptight... just try to provide a better solution for finding answers than the individual may find here.

It's next to impossible to be all things to all people. This forum is about molded lightweight fiberglass towables. The issues are typically about maintenance and care and feeding of molded which is different than flat panel fiberglass trailers... with seams. The insulation and interior finish is different than say... a Jayco.

Sure there are a lot of things in common... tow weights, bearing care, etc. And we're not exclusive nuts. General Chat is about all kinds of discussions, but the focus of the forums is going to remain molded trailers as found by the brands above the picture on the home page.

I think they are simply trying to make sure he gets the most appropriate information and answers?

It, too, has a focus: lightweight trailers. However, the term "lightweight" seems functionally to mean "if you feel yours is lightweight"!

Art VanDelay if you are still browsing this thread I wanted to thank you for raising the profile of the Argosy to me. I checked out the Airstream site and the Argosy sub site and found some information that helped me out re the Argosy Trailer and it's relationship with Thor Industries. I wasn't aware it went that far back.

They sure looked like the deluxe of it's day. Some very cool interiors...something Austin Powers would have used I'm sure if he RV'd...

And in this particular case, Art, the Argosy isn't fiberglass at all. It has a bonded aluminum wall. I was trying to steer Wayne to a resource that would be of value to him; something that is Argosy (in this case Squarestream Argosy) specific. Much like our molded fiberglass trailers have their own set of issues, the Squarestream trailers were pretty unique too, and other Squarestream owners can be of much more help to him than we'll be able to.

Frankly, the Squarestream Argosy trailers have very little in common with our molded fiberglass trailers (with the sole exception perhaps of our Bigfoot 25 models). They're built of different materials, are much larger, and their systems are much more complex. They leak from places ours don't even have. And, because they were aimed at a very different market, their systems and interiors are very, very different.

It's truly a matter of getting folks hooked up with other folks who can help them more than we can here.
