Compass??? Isn't that one of those things you use to draw circles? I've been known to drive in circles without any of those newfangled navigation aids.

I'm happiest when the hiking trails are well marked such as this one in Austria that tells you not how far to go in distance, but how far in hours and minutes. I never got lost whilst hiking in the Austrian Alps thanks to the great signage; no need for a compass. The best part was that every trail had a farmer's house which provided food and beer! Wunderbar!

I'd read about these a year ago and found them really interesting. I am currently attempting to learn Land Navigation, i.e. landnav, and am reading about how to navigate with a compass, more than simply reading N,S,E&W. It's a little more complicated that I thought but I find this interesting. Thanx for sharing.
