Gas Mileage

Hi everyone,
We have been looking at purchasing a 17' Deluxe Casita, and wondered how much your tow vehicle gas mileage dropped when towing vs. not?
We sold our larger trailer due to the extra cost in fuel to tow, I was wondering if Casita really affects the gas mileage much being that it is sleek
and light weight.

Towing our Casita 17' SD with the Escalade drops gas milage down from 19-20 MPG without to 14-15 with.

My Honda Odyssey gets 23 mpg (Highway) when not towing.
It gets 19 mpg (City) when not towing.
It gets 16 mpg (Highway) when towing my Fiber Stream at 55 mph.
It gets 11 mpg (Highway) when towing my Fiber Stream at 75 mph.

Normal on long trip is about 16 mpg.

V8 Ford Explorer 18 plus on highway................16 with Casita. In very hilly or mountainous areas that drops to about 13 mpg.

Thanks for the responses!!! These little trailers seem to make it easy on the pocket book
when travelling longer distances.
I found that I didn't use our previous large trailer because the amount of fuel the vehicle
used towing and the lack of distance I could get between refuelling was too short and also
the slower speeds I had to travel.

You might want to check the maximum speed for your trailer tires. Most trailer tires are rated for maximum 65 mph.

'07 Chevy Colorado crew with 3.7litre inline 5 and 13' trillium~ 1800 lbs.

Hwy-90 km.(no tow)-29 miles/gal(Imp.)

90 km.(tow)-21 miles/gal(Imp.)- averaged of this summer trip approx. 8,000kms. and included city and through Rockies Mtn and back

Thanks Byron, you are right. When I ordered the 4" lift on the trailer, I also upgraded to 15" tires and wheels.
