Oops - our advice is NEVER buy fuel in Needles, CA - those guys middle name is Jesse James! We fill up at one of the truck stops on AZ95 just before I-40 or in Ft. Mojave/Bullhead City - Maverik, Safeway or ???

It's the beginning of spring break so the prices go way up, but they wont go way down when it's over. They always have some kind of excuse.

I paid $4.10 yesterday in Eureka! Ouch! We're talking about opting out of Yellowstone this year and staying a big closer to home. Tahoe and Yosemite seem to make much more sense this year. Less driving, lower fuel costs and more time spent recreating (hiking, cycling, fishing, being lazy in the hammocks) and less time spent driving.

My wife just called me from town, gas is $3.76 in Study Butte, Tx. Somewhat a tourist town just now starting to get spring break travelers.

Wow, they are almost giving it away here!

$3.29

But not Diesel at $3.69 or so. I can not figure this one out?

This might make you feel better - over here in Scotland we are paying on average $10.39 for a gallon. Our islands are paying more due to the transportation costs. The government have previously announced they are going to add extra tax on fuel in April - they will become even more unpopular if they do. Fortunately our cars are generally lower powered than yours and use less fuel. Our two family cars are both 1.2 litre and we average around 40 mpg.

It must be that the gas in CA. is of better quality. I can't see any other reason why our gas would be so much higher priced.

I think everything in Cali is higher, including the wages.

In one sense you're right; California requires a special blend and cannot sell standard gas that is relatively plentiful elsewhere.
It's kind of like Arrowhead bottled water is good enough for the rest of the country but we Californians have to have Perrier.

In Washington we also buy cars manufactured to "California Emission Standards." Whatever that is. California has much the same problem Wisconsin has, too many government 'solutions.' I always fill up in the last station in Arizona and Oregon before entering high priced CA.

BTW, on Feb 19, we paid $3.07 in Florence, OR. When we pulled into town the night before, it was $3.05.
