With Federal C.A.F.E. standards going to 54MPG, gasoline prices being forced upward by government policy and a carbon tax on the horizon, a "Forever Trailer" will have to be a bit smaller and lighter, or it will be a "forever parked" trailer pretty soon.
That being said, the molded fiberglass genre has a leg up on the competition, and "forever" never lasts that long anyway.

Floyd,
we live in the land of $1.42 per Liter gas price. Every available tax including carbon, road, federal, provincial, and transit is included and we go out as often as we can. Our forever trailer is the one we have. We travel slow and fill with water only when we're close to our stop.

In Newfoundland prices have been a $1.30 a liter and if you buy $25 worth you can get 3 cans of Pepsi for $0.99.

Still a fillup is expensive. Thankfully we've been getting between 21 and 22 mpg. Still happy to be here. The more obvious cost differences are at the supper marketwhere things like eggs and butter are twice as expensive as the USA.

Ironically you can thank the various "Egg" and similar "Marketing" Boards for the supply management including pricing up here in the great white north.

That explains it! The difference between the level of Transit Tax charged in Squamish vs the North Shore. Dang! If we actually had a decent transit system on the NS I might not mind it so much!

The less elaborate transit systems you have available to use in your area the less you pay in carbon & transit etc gas taxes. Few areas of Newfoundland are known for their elaborate public transit systems Its the main reason it is always cheaper in Canada to gas up outside a major urban area.

The high price is in part due to the fact your on an Island. Its the same on Vancouver Island as well. They need to factor in the additional high cost of the ferry ride to get the goods to the island..... but thats not saying we in Canada do not normally pay more than folks in the US for such items regardless. Sadly we do. Its the reason the Costco's in US border towns have parking lots full of cars with Canadian licence plates.

Gas prices are often a mystery but i's hard to blame Vancouver"s ferry costs.

Newfoundland is also an island, 6 hours by ferry on the short route plus another 400 or so miles to where most of the population lives.

Newfies are also great walkers and generally don't seem to go far. You see them walking up and down severe hills all the time.

As to buying any brand, since these things have great genes age hardly seems an issue, ours is now 22 and probably better thsn ever and more complete.

You can expect to pay anywhere from $.75 - $1.00 more per gallon on Nantucket Island, and double that at the boat docks compared to the mainland. Might be because it is a rather small island (15 miles by 5 miles) and all the gas is the same brand.

There is no mystery re gas prices in Vancouver which are the highest in the Country- although some suggest Montreal is at times higher. Taxes make up about 33% of what we pay for gas. The powers that be want/wish Vancouver to be known around the world as a very green city (yup even the powers that be come up from California to get new ideas on that front). As such we have a very expensive transit system and if you live anywhere near the city you are going to pay a very high transit tax on every litre of gas you buy, along with a Carbon Tax to encourage you to use the transit instead.

This comment was in response to calling the Escape a "forever trailer", saying that a true "forever trailer" must be smaller and why that is so.
It was relevant to the topic, and mentioned nothing about "Gas prices in Canada" nor did it have anything to say about the price of "EGGS" in China!
