Here is a reply that I got from the a/c site.................
The unit runs at 8 amps and the starting surge is 1.5 to 2.5 times that depending on the outside temperature and the length of time between cycles.

That would mean that the harshest conditions will be 20 amps x 115 volts =2300watts(2400 if you use 120VAC) and normal is 12 amps x 115VAC = 1380watts----running amps at 8 x 115VAC is 920 watts.....this seems to be the final word on the subject for me....I just need to buy a
generator that will fit these numbers, taking into account that I will be camping at higher elevations at times and sometimes at very hot conditions requiring the unit to cycle on often,both of which will require a gen with at least 2400 watts peak ability...thanks to all who "charged" in on this subject......Bob
