Well, after 2 months of meager selections and always being just too late (I drove up to look at one trailer just in time to see the new owners hooking it up ) - I decided to spend the weekend in Vancouver BC looking at older Bigfoot trailers.

I saw several, met a lot of really interesting folks, but, in the end decided that they were too wide to fit comfortably in the storage area I have and that I really didn't want to go through more years of 'fixer-uppers' (I had 5 years of maintaining my 20 yr old VW Westfalia - which averaged out to about 1 repair every time I took it out). And the newer Bigfoot models, in addition to being a little too wide, are about 3,000 pounds now!!! More than I want to haul - even though they are very nicely appointed.

And, as I traveled about the Vancouver area, looking at 'too old' 'too wide' 'too already-sold' eggs, I kept seeing little eggs on the road zooming off to holiday trips - it was so frustrating and sad (where's MY egg?)

So, I went to the Escape factory in Chilliwack - met the nice folks who make them, got a tour of the factory . . . . . and then ordered me a brand-spanking new one! (OK, so I have a low tolerance for frustration).

So, I'm almost an egg owner - I guess at this stage it's only an ova. First, there was the glimmer in my eye; then Bank check meets Product brochure to create an ova - and a few short weeks later (1 Sept when I'm traveling back up to Canada anyway), there will be my egg - all shiny and ready-to-go!!

No floor replacement, no wiring diagrams, no plumbing to figure out...Lucky Duck!

Congrats on your ova and your soon-to-be camping experiences!

I'll bet that it won't even come with spider webs in the wheel wells. Oh well I guess you can have them instaled at a later date.

Congrats on your new camper and many happy outings

Cool Anne post some pictures when your Egg is hatched. We looked at Bigfoots and did not want the extra weight as well. We fell into our 19ft Scamp by luck of going to the Oregon gathering last year. Enjoy the experience.

That's great, congratulations.

Options I really like on my Escape include:

Exterior 110V plug (good for doodah lights)
Fantastic Fan (great ventilation)
Range Cover
High Lift Axle (need the extra 2 inches of clearance for my driveway)
Extra 12V plug and TV plug near galley
Air Conditioning (I need it for the desert, the fantastic fan works great otherwise)
A small window over the sink (good for ventilation and extra light)
Two shelves in the wardrobe rather than a closet bar (more useful for our needs)

We have kids so we got the outside shower, comes in real handy at the beach

I figure I have used up my lifetime quota of 'yuck' in having to clear out an entire village of mice from my old VW . . . . .
dead mice in the freshwater tank
dead / living mice in the headliner - along with about 2 pounds of birdseed they'd dragged in there.
about 2.5 feet of mouse nest in the heater vents (smelly mouse nest blowing into my van every time I turned on the heat) that I had to dig out.

I probably should have pulled the stove/fridge etc out and examined the wiring - I'll bet it was mostly eaten through - although I didn't have any electrical problems - left that for the new owner!!

Lots of mechanical updates which, although expensive, I could at least pay someone else to do.

Lots of trips to www.busdepot.com for replacement parts for various parts of the camping appliances that got old, cracked and died. Lots of weekends spent trying to figure out how the VW was put together - fortunately, it came with the big ($100) mechanics guide - very comprehensive.

Yes, I'm looking forward to more sitting in the shade of my awning at a cool campsite, sipping a beverage and enjoying the scenery

Congratulations Anne. We love the Escape we bought last year and are getting ready to take it out again -- to dog agility camp in Quesnel. We stopped in at the factory recently and loved some of the tweaking they have done to the new ones so you will have a real skookum trailer. It is so nice to deal with Reace and the others at the factory -- am glad they are not selling through dealers. Enjoy.

ooooh How Exciting And birthed in just a bit over three months...women should be so lucky

Now you have a bit of time to start plotting and planning those first trips and all the fun stuff you ge to purchase to make the trailer uniquely your own. May I suggest, first thing...a journal!

Good for you

My understanding is that ESCAPE is/was (recently) now only available through dealers - did Reace change his mind?

Escape trailers are no longer sold through dealerships, only factory direct.

Well, O'Conners RV in CHilliwack still has a few on his lot - my impression was that they have a few dealers (just none with my exact custom needs!)

The units on the lots must be leftovers from the earlier attempt to sale through dealers. You may be able to get a good deal on one of these orphans. The www.Escapetrailer.com website no longer lists dealers and Reace told me he was no longer using a dealership network.

Oooo! Congratulations! Escape trailers are neat! My wife and I considered ordering one, but we figured the distance and border would be a big problem. Then we found the late-model Casita and our dilemma was solved!

At any rate, you're going to LOVE your fiberglass RV!
