We are thinking about heading that way soon. I am eager to hear more about your trip, particularly if reservations are necessary or if it would be safe to take it one day at a time. DH hates to commit to a schedule. Also, to take or not to take the dog. Have a great trip!

Congratulations! Enjoy. We'll be in SC in late May, to visit the Lil Snoozy factory, prior to heading north.

Susie

You have to register. Just do a Google for Green Eggs and Ham. You can check the Gunter Hill COE campground to see if there are spaces left. There may be a few. If you are not attending, drive through and meet us. We will be at #124 in the Antioch loop.

David,

Call us when you get in the area. We are about two hours north of the LS factory. We would enjoy meeting you and seeing your LS mods.

We left on Thursday Feb 26th for the GE & Ham rally. We are presently camped at Florala SP in Southern Alabama . Heading to Montgomery and Gunter Hill on Sunday March 8th. It was -22 deg below when we left home in NW Wisconsin . It is 78 deg here in Florala or 100 deg warmer so we have a little adjusting to do . One strange thing was that there was little snow on the ground until we got to Northern Alabama .See you at the rally !!

PS :We brought our dog and he is loving the warmer weather .

Just a general internet tip:
You have just told the entire world that your property "Might" be empty for a while. I usually reserve departure notifications for those that have a need to know, and fill in details after the trip.

I never leave home for an extended period of time without having a house sitter. We have a good friend who lives in a small apartment and loves to spend time at our house because there is plenty of space for his dog to run. It also doesn't hurt that my neighbor on one side is a police officer and is one of the K9 handlers, and the neighbor on the other side is a firearms instructor for the DEA. And as a backup, there is a wireless alarm system with video monitoring in our home. I figure all of my bases are covered as well as they can be.

House sitters are an excellent plan but, as most residential burglaries take place in broad daylight, when everyone is at work, neighbors may only come home to find your front doors standing wide open after the fact. That happened to me in 2005.

We have traveled for 14 years, 8 months a year; the house has been occupied except for one year. Our home, except for one home, is surrounded by empty summer homes.

We always publish on this site our travel plans.

We have never had single problem.

Our only security is one neighbor and this year lots of really deep snow.

Of course we live in NH where the crime rate is very low, among the lowest in the nation.

As we've aged we worry less. There's hardly anything some one can steal that would have much of a negative effect on our lives. When young we worked very hard for things but later in life we learned that things have little real value, it's people, memories and a joy for life that count the most. Worrying about 'little disasters' just takes away from today.
