Scott: I so hear you. Every so often, we get unexpected attention / admiration from some stranger while towing Peanut...Friday AM two women stopped my husband by the library and wanted to talk about our parked 16' FG rig...they were so interested he almost let them have a tour, but we were in a loading only zone (dropping off books on the way out of town) and had to say good-bye.


The day we bought Peanut, we stopped at a rest area on the way home and people came skidding to a stop and offered to buy it then and there...that was hilarious. The first time we camped, a boy and his mother came knocking at 9 PM...she said the child was so curious he couldn't settle down for bed (he may have been her excuse for a peek inside). Paul let them look in.


You'll likely have far more such experiences...so far no stranger has said anything negative out our all-molded trailer; sometimes, though, we just get honked at; maybe from now on, we'll just say, "Oh, another admirer!"

Because after your post, I realize, maybe that IS what's going on.

Thanks for telling us your story, it really made me smile!

On a side note, how is the Indiana Dunes park for camping? We have been there before, but never camped. Did you reserve far in advance and how much does Indiana charge for the vehicle in addition to the camping fee?

We always got the same reaction with our 19’ Scamp. There was once a guy that stopped us in Hot Springs, Arkansas and told us that the Scamp was the sexiest thing he had ever seen.

On our recent ten day trip to Yellowstone, with stops near Lander, Cody and Thermopolis we must have given five tours or quick peeks. I lost count. It did make us feel somewhat special in a good way.

It sometimes gets to the point of annoying how many people want to ask us about our Escape. But then I remember when I was curious about fiberglass trailers and my "helpful and patient side" kicks in - mostly. :

i got a LOT Of interest from certain amateur astronomers when I had the casita, and a couple of them went out and have bought casitas.

the escape gets a lot of appreciation but these folks aren't quite ready for that step up its the perfect astro-cabin

Maybe it's like the difference between movie stars and TV stars...people will come up to a TV star more readily because they often look more "approachable," down-to-earth, or homely (homey)...

Maybe you look more like movie stars, so to speak, and people are more respectful or even intimidated.

If you can't take the heat buy a tent. Especially in Camo colors. No one bothers anyone in a Camo colored tent.

I find the impromptu tours part of the fun owning these trailers. I am finally Cool. Well at least the trailer is. I mostly get stopped at gas stations.

We're always flattered and would eagerly give tours if we were properly parked out of the way.


Also, if we weren't in "tow" mode (bungees all over and the load distributed more toward the front) and had the trailer "straight" inside; I'm not so fond of showing when I'm in my nightgown with the dogs' breakfasts laid out on the galley counter and throw pillows all every which-way.


But we're always flattered! Always!

So true... I do not get asked to show it off often, but when I do I can guarantee its either raining cats and dogs, the camper is a mess, I'm in a hurry, I'm parked at the gas pumps with ten cars lined up behind me, or some combination of those and other things. No one wants a tour at campground for some reason. I don't know why that is! I keep asking the interested person if their name is Murphy and if they have a law named after them.
