Trailer: Bigfoot 21 ft
Posts: 16
Searching the net Wednesday evening I found a 21' Bigfoot for sale. After spending 2 weeks deer hunting out of my 17' SD Casita I found it a little cramped. It is a great little trailer and I loved with for weekends............... Ok I was bitten by the 4' bug. You know the one that gives you a sickness that can only be put in remission by buying a 4' bigger trailer, boat or whatever.

So Saturday morning I am off on a 1,600 mile one way trip to the frozen North to pick up a 2005 Bigfoot 21'. It is supposed to be in like new condition. I hope so as I really would hate to make this trip for nothing. So the plans are to be home with it in about 8 days.

I haven't figured out just what to do with the 2005 Casita yet. A friend says save it until I have to have a bigger trailer. Then put a hitch on the bigfoot and drag the Casita behind it sort of like putting a storage building in the backyard when you out grow your house.

Camping season is coming up quickly (but, not quickly enough). You can sell that Casita faster than imagined, for a good price to you and a fair price to the buyer...recoup some of the money you're spending on the BigFoot.

Glad to hear you're staying with molded fiberglass! Have a safe trip and I hope everything turns out perfectly. When you get back..we'd love to see some pictures

Congratulations on the new trailer. We just did the same thing, replacing our 16' Scamp with a 21' Bigfoot. You are going to love the Bigfoot and the extra room. Remember though that the Bigfoot is much heavier than your Casita and is a much different tow. I couldn't really see keeping the Scamp too, although we certainly considered it. But, if it would have been a 13', I would have kept it just for solo trips and ease of towing on short trips. BTW, the Scamp sold in a week as I am sure your Casita will if you decide to part with it.

Yes I will be selling the Casita but it will be after I return with the Bigfoot. It needs cleaning out and polishing before putting it on the market. I figure to put it on the market when the weather starts getting better here in Texas.

Yes, I do wish I could keep it for short trips by myself but the money it will bring is needed to help pay for the Bigfoot.

Thanks for the thought about being harder to tow but I have that covered. My truck is a Chevy HD with the 8.1L engine and 4.10 gears.

Charles:

I just did the same thing in December, moving from a Casita 17 to a Bigfoot 21. The first thing we noticed was that the four foot difference seems GIGANTIC. Of course the Bigfoot is not only longer but a little wider and higher, too. So the gain in cubic feet is really quite profound. I was quite content in the Casita - when I was by myself. When travelling with my dear wife there was some dissension over the constant bumping into each other. Your truck will do fine. I am pulling my Bigfoot with a 5.4 liter Ford F-150 with no problems. Be prepared for your gas mileage to take a hit, though.

As for selling the Casita - it went out in a blur. I was going to post it on this forum and the Casita forum simultaneously. I typed my ad into the Casita forum on one day, but got distracted and didn't get the ad typed into this forum. Before I could do this the next day, I had a couple on their way from Texas to buy the Casita. I would have loved to keep both trailers, but my financial advisor (my wife) said we needed the money for the Bigfoot.

You will notice the extra weight and width while towing. If you don't already have extra-wide mirrors, you will probably want them at some point. Backing trailers up is a lot trickier when you can't see down the sides in your mirrors.

Have a safe trip! Dave

A 25' Bigfoot with a seperate bedroom in the back. I'm soooooooo jealous. That's the one I want , if I ever decide to part with my 13' Little Marshmallow.

It is a sweet setup, Joy.

If you'd like to see some photos of it, you can look at:
