What can we do to help the people of Haiti . Some of us have little in the way of funds but would still like to help . Maybe we can band together to arrange something on both sides of the Canada , U.S. Border . If you have any ideas i'm sure we would all love to hear it . We should be able to do something .

Truly this is a terrible disaster and hopefully the world of nations will step up in the ways they deem appropriate. I think the US tax payer will be in the forefront footing a considerable portion of the bill.

One way retired RV'ers might consider helping is to volunteer for a week at Sager Brown, which is the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) depot in Louisiana. Volunteers assemble health kits, school kits, and so on, to go to relief efforts. Sager Brown has dorms for volunteers, who do pay their own expenses- which are modest, about $100 for the dorm for a week and $85 for food, but also has 12 RV spaces with hookups ($20 per night.)

Sager Brown

My mother has been down there a number of times and always enjoyed it.

I imagine other volunteer opportunities of this sort exist, this just happens to be the one I know about.

Great suggestion's everyone.

I like the volunteer idea, but realize that is hard for people. I think it would be fun.

Well, they take money, too, but for retired folk who can take a week off plus the travel time, it might be a fun week doing something to help others. They say the need can go on for several years following a major disaster like this (and they work around the calendar anyway to prepare for the next one.)
