Happy Solstice!

Soooooo........where's the sun? Is someone enjoying it somewhere?

The PNW continues to have unseasonable weather (or maybe not, June has traditionally been a wet month, but not April, May AND June!). Locals (and the weatherman) call it "Juneuary".

But we do have long northern days to celebrate the solstice, officially getting 15 hours, 59 minutes, and 35 seconds of daylight today. In spite of cloud and drizzle, it was rather light even at 11 last night and at 3:30 a.m this morn.

I wrote of a summer solstice camping trip WAY up north on Haida Gwaii back in 1995 - where it seemed to never get dark - on my blog.

Enjoy whatever summer brings your way this first day!

Penney

Our pink climbing roses are the 'brightest' thing in our yard this first day of summer.......

Locals (and the weatherman) call it [b]"Juneuary".
Here at the bottom of the left coast, we don't get much sun in the mornings due to "marine layer", "coastal eddy", and "onshore flow" at this time of year. We call it [b]"May Gray" and [b]"June Gloom".

We have no sun and rain predicted in Minnesota. I did however ride my motorcycle to work, me being an optimist

Its beautifull here. Being this far north we have daylight till at least 1100pm. The little kids don,t understand that they have to go to bed, they think its still day time.

You can have some of our rain here in Winnipeg. Drizzling off and on all day. Suppose to continue tomorrow I think. Probably the same cloud that's covering us, is covering Don in Minnesota. It'll be our rain that's headed there too probably!

Sigh. Myself and my co-workers have quit talking about sun... now we just hope for NO rain. Somehow it seems like we should be able to trade all the moisture we're getting for some of the sun others are getting. Wacko weather....

That was nearly the last time we had good weather Ches Our winter was actually better than the spring... and who knows what summer may be like?

Penney & Mike,

You should have been on the Central Oregon Coast today! Bright beautiful sunshine all day!! Those days are few and far between, however, as you know from your recent trip.

Sigh........thanks for the tease! Amazing you have the good weather there on the coast, while the rest of us west side north westerners welcomed summer in the gray - actually the clouds are breaking up now that it is evening!

We will return to the Oregon coast some time....you are lucky to live there and catch those days!

This thread has been interesting - seems either unseasonably hot or cold for most folks this first day of summer!

(very funny Bruce - it's the Spring Equinox however that one is supposedly able to stand an egg on its end!)

Penney:

We were away in Vancouver Island this weekend, and we can't complain about the weather at all. Here was the sunrise on Sunday morning.
