Help choosing my first Fiberglass Camper.

Hello All, I am in need of some assistance. I have always been infatuated with Fiberglass Campers and I finally saved enough to potentially purchase one. The only issue is that my garage is short and due to restrictions in my community I can't park it in the driveway. My garage door is just shy of 7 feet tall. I scoured the internet to find the dimensions of some of the older model fiberglass campers because all the new ones are too tall but I can't find height, only width and length for most of them. Can anyone recommend a camper that will fit in my tiny garage? Thank All!!!

Try a compact compact jr or trailswest others including myself with some mods have fit a 13' scamp w/o roof a/c

I agree. One of the rear-entry pop-top types would be your best bet: Hunter Compact I, II, and Jr. or Trailswest Campster. They will sleep two, possibly three if one is little. There are several on the market right now, unfortunately, none near you.

As to dimensions of older trailers, there are so many variables and modifications that affect the height that it's almost impossible to give any definitive answers. I will say that older Bolers and similar 13' egg-shaped trailers are typically about 7' tall or a little over- if the suspension is stock height and there are no rooftop mods. Many can be shoehorned into a standard 7' garage with some work- replacing the road wheels with tiny 8" boat trailer wheels works for some people. Newer Scamps are taller, and newer Casitas sit on a raised suspension.

It seems like the compacts are big on the west coast. I don't mind driving a little but that is more than a weekend away. Thanks for all the info though. If some of the vintage models were closer I would just drive to them to measure but 4 hours of driving to walk away without a camper doesn't seem reasonable. I love the Scamps but they all seem slightly too tall. Thanks again!

You have to be careful with assumptions too. There's no way to determine height of any older trailer without an actual measurement. For instance, I changed the axle on my 1988 Scamp. It now sits taller than when brand new. New tires can also change height if the tires are a different size than original.

And before you go look be sure snd download the buyers checklist from this site ( a great tool)

Another member on here has chosen to removed his "road tires" and use smaller utility trailer tires to allow his camper to fit into his garage. This concept of lowering the profile is a bit "fiddly" but it works for him. When he wants to return to the road for travel, he re-installs the factory tires/wheels and is ready for camping. This idea is just for storage but it provides a few inches of clearance for a stock Boler to fit into his garage.

I have the same situation with my garage door being 7'. I also like the small wheel solution and plan to use them on a Lil Snoozy. The height of this model is < 8'.
