Looking back I know I made some pretty bone headed modifications to my cars in an attempt to go faster around the turns. Most of my modifications copied what I saw other teen agers doing to their cars.
It wasn't until I entered my first solo race and went home amazed that I had the slowest time of the day and not the fastest that I started watching what the quick did and copied them. The youngster that slammed that car will likely have a similar experience.
