8' Garage doors are a rarity. Most are 84-86"

Unfortunately we only have a 7' door opening right now. I am either going to see if the opening can be enlarged to 8', or to see how much a new out building will run. Right now the Snoozy sits next to the garage.

Raising a garage door header (opening), depending on the type of construction and local codes, at the very least, can be difficult, if not impossible. In any case it will be very expensive, a real PITA.

Does your local building code allow metal carports like this?

I raised the header on both doors of my former house. the cost was negligible, the labor moderate, the results fantastic!...

Thank you Bob & Floyd with your suggestions. I will be looking into them both as options.

I went through the thought process of Aliner/Chalet vs. Scamp and in the decided that the durability Scamp would be better for me. I also have a similar HOA issue and currently have a tent trailer parked in the garage. I am looking for a Scamp (probably order new one next spring) but have resigned myself to arranging RV storage for it.

Based on your pros and cons I'd go for the ready to go, no leaky floor or bugs and more headroom. Tea doesn't need to be made in a microwave?

I agree JR... I have never seen one in Canada but from the pics they seem like a good idea and you can't knock that aero front end.

According to the Scamp Manufacturing website, new trailers:
13' Standard Trailers = Overall height 7’ 6”
13' Deluxe Trailers = Overall height 7'6"
16' Standard Trailers = Overall height 7’ 10”
16' Deluxe Trailers = Overall height 7’ 10”

Prior to the fire, all bets are off. Then you must consider the age of the trailer, original axle, versus new axle. These trailers "settle" with age due to the torsion axle.

On a used trailer, never assume anything if you MUST get the trailer into the garage. Every trailer of every year will measure a bit different. If it's important, get an exact measurement.

I wanted a bathroom with real privacy. I believe Aliner is open at the top. Scamp bathroom is an actual room.

Unfortunately, in a 13' Scamp adding a bathroom means giving up the front bunks. It will only sleep 2 on the rear dinette. I believe the OP is looking to sleep 3.

Thanks for the replies. Going for scamp 13. Does anyone have opinion on Vinyl vs carpet floors? Ease of cleaning, maintenance, etc.

Don't know what Scamp's production schedule looks like for 2015, but if you wait until spring to order you may not get your trailer until late in the season. Scamp's deposit requirement is pretty reasonable, so I'd consider ordering in the late fall/winter. You could still wait until spring to sell the tent trailer when prices are higher. I'd hate to miss the season and still have to shell out for winter storage.

Vinyl or laminate is the way to go.

I like our carpet. Quiet & soft on the feet. We leave shoes outside. Throw rugs make cleaning easy, and I give it a quick vacuum when we get home. If I were planning to camp in rainy climates much, though, I'd probably opt for vinyl.

I took the carpet out of our Scamp to put in vinyl, and our Lil Snoozy has vinyl.
It is amazing how much dirt is brought in every day, which can be cleaned with a small whisk broom & dust pan, then follow with a spray bottle of cleaner. The carpet just traps it and is really never very clean. Warm socks or slippers are easy to put on in cold weather for a more comfy feel against cool floors.

It's a personal choice, we've had both. In either case we've always had two throw rugs, one in front of the stove/sink and one just inside the door. As well we have an all weather rug outside the door.

We use a crumb sweep like a manual vacuum to clean our present carpet until we get home.
