Hello! What's everyone up to here in the States (sorry Canadians!) doing over the holiday? Anyone got a Dutch Oven recipe they're going to try out?

WooHoo, after this month of tons of stress, I am sooo ready for a quiet weekend to rebound and for time to remember family and friends who have served.

Cheers! Good Holiday, safe travels, to all!

McKinney Falls State Park, Austin, TX. There is a Boler here also, but haven't had a chance to go by the site while anyone was there. Low 70's for the lows and mid 90's for the highs. Just a little warm, BUT, my portable 2 hose AC is keeping me comfortable.

Well, I sold my old VW Camper a few weeks ago; got the new Hitch on my SUV this week . . . . so . . . . . I'll be spending the long weekend trolling RV lots and the internet for a new-to-me egg or lightweight TT !!!

We stay off the road on long holiday weekends - too many yahoos out there trying to pack too much energy into too few days. We were camping down in Whitewater State Park the past few days, in a gorgeous campsite right on the river. But we left before the campground started filling up, and will enjoy a quiet weekend at home.

We have been invited to our friend Scott's home in Palm Springs to lounge about the pool. He likes it when we visit because we bring our "guest room" with us.

Well, I just got home from a great trip last night, so I'll probably hang out around here and get some yard work done.

One of my chores should be washing and waxing my trailer. You should see all the bugs I brought home.

We'll be getting ready to accompany 15 high school juniors and recently graduated seniors on a Spanish/Biology department co-sponsored trip leaving June 4th for the Costa Rica rain forest for eleven days!

Ok... the trip sounds good... with high-schoolers? Uhhh... we'll see...

Site 71 at Standing Indian campground in Natahala National Forest (western NC). Stop by if you happen to be in the area.

From: http://www.forestcamping.com

DIRECTIONS:
In Franklin, NC, at the intersection of of US Rts. 23/441/64,
take US Rt. 64 west for 12 miles to Wallace Gap/Standing Indian
campground sign (Old Murphy Rd.). Turn left onto Old Murphy Rd.
and go 1.9 miles to Standing Indian campground sign (Forest Rt.
67). Turn right onto Rt. 67 and go 1.8 miles to "Y"
intersection. Bear right into campground.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 3,160 ft.

The campground, loaded with Rhododendrons, is bisected by the
Nantahala River and Kimsey Creek. There are five loops. Sites
1 through 54 are located on open flats with paved aprons and wide
interior road. Sites 55 through 84 are along a hillside, nestled
among Rhododendrons and hemlocks, with a steep gravel access road.

The campground is situated in what is considered one of the best
hiking destinations in the southwest mountains. It is one of the
few places where one can actually take a loop hike, a part of which
is the Appalachian Trail.

The Compact will be our mobil hotel room in San Antonio, Texas for my Vietnam unit's reunion(45th Surgical Hospital). We're staying at the KOA. Then on the way home we'll get in some real camping at Meridian State Park.

I made a futile (and half hearted) attempt to get a site at a campground near me here. All full for the weekend.

I will probably try Heart Bar. Even on busy weekends, I have not been left without a spot.

Then again.. maybe not.. I have things to attend to around here too.

Staying home getting the Burro ready for camping next week. Like Jack said, too many yahoos on the road this weekend and too many campers in the campgrounds.

For anyone that is traveling this weekend, watch the roads and those crazy drivers. Take care, take your time, don't get in a hurry, stay safe, drive careful, don't crack an egg and most of all have a grand time, a great adventure and a relaxing trip.

Don't forget those who have served and those that are over seas right now.
Happy Camping Everyone-----
And a Wonderful Memorial Weekend to all------

Just found out my NEW Wave 3 heater came in. I am going to be futzing with Propane heaven, I guess!

Getting ready for camping NEXT weekend.. I know what you mean.. everything will be packed this weekend, and tumbleweeds will be blowing thru even the mountaintop campgrounds NEXT weekend.

But, I may go to Patricks too! That pool looks inviting

(Just kidding Freddy)

Cleaning the pool tonight so we can just jump in this weekend, Getting my TT (not an egg, yet!) ready for a trip in June, making sure my son gets all his overdue homework done, finishing the flower bed that only needs a few feet more, planting a tree for a friend in memory of her husband that died last weekend, and maybe go visit the local campground and see all the tourists (and see if any of them have an egg for sale!)

Should be a feat getting the camper there and a bit full with those 15 kids!

Have a wonderful trip! I can't wait to see the photos! How about a blog, Rog?

www.blogger.com is so easy and no pesky ads! We could follow your adventures!

We're heading out later this afternoon. Gonna see if we can find a place east of Salem to park the Mountain Egg for a few days. I expect we'll have to spend most of tomorrow inside, so we'll be sitting inside looking out.

My wife and I were going to boondock somewhere in the North Carolina mountains this weekend. But as I work as a letter carrier for USPS, and have no control over management decisions, I was forced in to work on Saturday. So we can't go anywhere. Alas.

Of course I could call in sick, but I have never done that. It would only add a lot of labor on my fellow workers.

Oh, well.
