It varies for me depending on where I'm going, what I'm planning on doing. It could be 12-14 hours and maybe 600 miles or it could be less than 100 miles. If I'm going to Colorado or Arizona or somewhere else from Michigan, I tend to get the in between behind me as fast as possible.

i generally apply the "2, 4, 6 rule" to determine daily stopping points...

200 miles, 4 hours or 6pm...whichever comes first.

i'm retired and can take my time finally.

Does anyone still use a "CB" radio while towing, I have one with built in weather radio and thinking about using during "severe weather" periods, which is normally the summer months.

Negative.
And best check laws as you cross the country. BC prohibits use of hand held devices, which I presume would include a microphone. Can't adjust your GPS, text or talk on cell phone while driving.

This peeks my interest....................
I haven't used a CB for decades. I will be looking into
one that may include a weather radio. That would be
good to have.

As an old truck driver, I know how to "watch" the traffic.
I saw a few cops (smokey) on the way to Florida and back,
but knew when to be "nice."..................LOL

I like CB's when truckers are warning of bad wrecks, etc.
up ahead. It's really good to know if one happens to need to
make a detour.

I use a Ham Radio while driving cross country. I was lucky that the 10 meter band was wide open during the daytime. O FM through repeaters on the east and west coast I could reach as far as England to the east and Hawaii to the west. The band closed down at night and is listen on 11 meters. It was mostly useless except for traffic and accident warnings.

Night time would be good for the. 80 meter band but you would need a good antenna tuned for a specific frequency and an amplifier...a lot of effort and cost to make it work.

We bring one of those CB hand held units w/antenna but have to-date
only put it out for use on logging roads for communications to/from
the logging vehicles/traffic.

I wouldn't want to ruin a drive like this by being hit by one of those big trucks!
